This is by far the worst book I have read in a while. It is trying to be every romantasy trope at once and the result are half baked characters, world building that makes no sense, and a plot that just happens. I found the FMC to be unlikable. MMC is superficial with the sole purpose of delivering book tok lines to FMC.
What kills me most about this book is that the plot could have been good, but the writing was a huge let down.

It was a very weird pace, like something happened in two scenes we are suddenly on this adventure.

This book was everything I wanted and more. Fear the Flames has officially become a new favourite. The political intrigue was layered and genuinely gripping—I never knew who was playing who, and I was living for it.
The world-building is rich, immersive, and full of tension, but what really sealed it for me was the enemies to lovers dynamic. It was slow, believable, and so satisfying. The chemistry between the leads kept me turning pages way past bedtime. And the found family vibes? Beautifully done.
Also… those plot twists? I did not see them coming, and they hit hard in the best way. I already have book two, and I’ll be diving in the second I get home. This series has me hooked.
I’m DNFing this- maybe I’ll revisit but I’ve literally checked it out twice and I cannot get past how terrible the writing is!
i really enjoyed this book. it felt like a mixture of plots that i already loved, namely game of thrones & throne of glass, mashed-up into one story. there was a baseline of political drama that didn’t really kick up until the very end of the story, but it will make for an interesting read going into book 2. without spoiling anything, i’m curious to see how the FMC will be going forward after all the events that occurred at the end of the book. there were a lot of things kind of left up in the air so it will be interesting to see where book 2 picks up and how it navigates all the chaos that is bound to happen.
