DNF at 20% … because I just don’t think this book is good.
I don’t want to read about a celena Sardothian clone in a world with poor world building and an enemies to lovers romance that lays it on way too thick way too early.

This was absolutely fantastic. I went into it with no expectations, and left with an absolute favorite. I’m very shocked to say that I have not heard of this book when it was self published. I usually know all the good ones. But I’m so happy I got introduced to this as it’s re-release into the world. I love everything about the characters. Elowen is just everything I look for in a FMC. She’s smart, tough, and totally honest badass. Her and Cayden really just did it for me. I love the relationship and I love the banter that they have together. To say I’m excited for the next book is quite the understatement. But I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

Oh, hello, new fantasy world for me to get lost in. Fear the Flames was a book I received in a personalised one-time box subscription I bought for myself for my birthday back in May. It only took me until August to finally pick it up and read it, and I’m kicking myself I didn’t do it sooner. I’ve been finding these books with male characters that fall first and hard this year, and I think I’m a little obsessed with some of them. I get that there are some similarities between some other dragon-related books, specifically those that contain a dragon queen, a dark-natured commander, a fire priest, and ruthless rulers. But the banter in this is fantastic, the found family trope is giving me everything, and the strong female warrior princess being enthralled by romance books is endearing. There are several messy moments where I had to reread some lines of dialogue to figure out who said what. I think that comes down to the formatting of the book because some lines would sound like one character said it, but I would think that it should have been told by another when that was the case all along, and I’m left confused. Also, Cayden repeating almost the same line of “The first time I make you…it’ll be…” was a little frustrating. Like, dude, you’re a commander, your actions and words are a bit mismatched. Even so, I’m intrigued enough about the dragons since there’s not much mention of them in this one to read the next book at some point.
