There was some parts of this story that I nearly left it as 3 stars but the ending gave it the extra star.
I will say its a bit more slow paced than maybe it necessarily needed to be at times, and at times it worked against it because it started to seem a bit off (in the sense of "why is the character so focused on this right now in the midst of all this drama?" kind of vibe). Now in some cases that worked for the books twists and definetly created this kind of...eerie vibe like an unsettling "something isnt right" which niggles at your brain as you read it because you're trying to pick it apart and THAT was great but in other times it kind of felt like a random tangent, which drew the story on more than was necessarily needed. I liked the premise, and bouncing from the different perspectives too again that was great.
(Here im gonna try to explain about the 3 star vibe now i wont give spoilers directly BUT ill kind of talk around it so read at own risk)
I will say the nature of some of the twists felt odd because...idk if the writer was aiming for this notion of the main character was lying, even to herself? because it was just constantly revealing a twist but then revealing the character KNEW the twist and then carrying on with this new knowledge as if there was never a twist in the first place, and insisting that was all she knew. For example it was like the character was going "the sky is blue. The sky is blue. I know the sky is blue i always see it thats all i know about the sky" but then revealing the sky is actually purple and then the characters like "I discovered the sky is purple a few months ago and have realised this was always the case but was worried about telling others but thats everything i know" THEN going "I may actually have found out the sky is green a while ago but I SWEAR THATS ALL I KNOW" like ALL these discoveries were found out before the books events and she just casually reveals them after we (the reader) have spent the last few chapters working on the knowledge that SHE insisted was the only knowledge she had! But she also does this to the other characters so it's not just the readers getting new info but even one of the characters gets frustrated by this because main character has already said THREE TIMES "thats everything i know". Her reasoning for always withholding stuff is a bit flimsy as well like when a character points out that's the 3rd time she cringes like a little kid and just says I didn't know what to say? now i have read other books that have a similar twist in that a character swears they only know so much then quietly reveal to reader they know more and it can be good but by the THIRD time its a touch exasperating especially when she faces no repercussions too. I think it mightve been better revealing, along with the ending, AFTER everything rather than sprinkling it accross the book.
I did really enjoy the ending though in both perspectives, and despite some frustrations was really eager for this to continue (and initially there wasnt a continuation when i first read this so im thrilled there is now!) so by all means it IS worth the read but just be prepared for the slow wind up

This book was on my want to read list for a while. Frankly, I was disappointed. I was expecting something, very suspenseful, and it never delivered. It was predictable in my opinion.
