Sure, the little boy walks around with a rifle and the townsfolk praise the pig like a piggie messiah and totally forget about the spider that can spell, but I still cried once or twice so sentimentalism wins out again.

I read this to my 3 daughters. By the end only the 8 year old was still listening, although to be fair the others are only 5 and 3. It was an enjoyable read.
