Didn’t love the story as a whole. Really didn’t enjoy the male narrator’s voice on the audiobook so I struggled to get through it.

FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS!!!!! 9.29 CAWPILE

Jennifer Hartmann has done it once again!!!

This book is fantastic. The whole premise of the word LOTUS has me shook and I think I may have liked this more than "Still Beating" by JH. The animal sidekicks in this book (I am looking at you Alexis and Athena) are fantastic and really made the book so much better!

How everything came together at the end completely surprised me and I did not see any of it coming! Not one bit! Sydney and Oliver are a fantastic couple that has truly been through hell and back but their love never faded or faltered.

Ugh I am still in shock over how great this book is but this seals it for me... I WILL READ ANYTHING THIS AUTHOR WRITES!

I have all of JH's backlist on my TBR and now I am about to binge!!

Predictable at a point.... good book.  Loved the story.  Argh.... the who did it!!!

3.5

As the book synopsis mentions, Oliver was kidnapped as a little boy and broke free as a young adult. There wasn’t a lot of foreshadowing other than the obvious connection between Oliver and Sydney so I was pleasantly surprised how this friends to lovers story also covered the fateful days that lead up to the abduction some surprising turn of events after their reunion.

“Because we’re a fucked up complicated species prone to self-sabotage, baseless insecurities, and the notion that there’s always something better around the corner. We’re constantly chasing imaginary destinations, thinking we’re missing out, wanting more. We’re never truly present.”

“We’ll rise from the ashes with smoke in our lungs and scars on our skin, but we will persevere. We will thrive.”

“The lotus will bloom into the most magnificent flower, even when its roots are in the murkiest of waters.”

This was good but not as good as Still Beating for me. I did guess the entire plot at 24% though, so I think some of the shock factor wasn’t there for me when it would’ve been if I didn’t guess it.
