it doesn't feel right to try and describe this book, the way it made me feel goes beyond what I can write here

Trist bok om den døde sønnen til forfatteren. Gråt masse
Jeg græd (kun) to gange, mens jeg læste bogen. Begge gange var steder, hvor det omhandlede Carls 12-årige lillebrors reaktion til hans død.

incredibly heavy exploration of grief. stayed with me for many days.
Reminded me a bit of Mourning Diary by Roland Barthes. The book comes in fragments, in the same way that we experience grief. It's a hard read that will make you ache, but Aidt's depiction of grief is so incredibly accurate. It also made me think a lot about the way when someone dies, we return them to the earth. We give them back.

A beautiful, moving book that uses Aidt's experience as a poet to craft a fragmented narrative--reflecting the author's fragmented state of mind after her young-adult son's unexpected accidental death. Innovative, touching, and memorable. The only missing piece that I wanted was perhaps a bit more perspective; this book, though, touches only on the near-after (about a year following Carl's death), so maybe that perspective will come in another book.
