The Change is a witchy murder mystery with built friendships and a bit of a romance. It isn't something I would normally pick up but it was picked by my book club and I am so happy it was. I was hooked right from the beginning and enjoyed the read very much. I liked the powers all the kick @ss women had and the overall girl power vibe. 4.5*

While I enjoyed reading it, I couldn't help but feel Kristen's editors could do with being a bit more vicious with their editing. The book overstays it's welcome by circa 50+ pages or so, and there are flashback chapters that don't really aid the narrative in any way by inserting them where they appear. In addition, there are numerous typos with speech marks.
The 3 main characters of Harriett, Jo and Nessa are unique and have a good rapport, but I didn't feel they had the big show down moments they were set up for; Jo's big moment in particular was rather a fizz than a bang (literally). Harriett is easily the most realised character, and I enjoyed her participation in the story and it's conclusion, but still I couldn't help but feel it missed a certain something.
Finally, it's great to read feminist works, and I do read lot of works by female authors. The book touches on a lot of pertinent issues such as "The less dead", sexism, rape and murder. At times some of the dialogue did feel a little heavy handed.
Overall, a solid 3* vacation page turner.

The Change by Kirsten Miller
Is MONUMENTOUS
I don’t know what I was expecting. It was not this, but this was more than anything I could have imagined.
Truly I don’t think I could write any review except to say it’s perfect. It’s like finally having pure water after only ever having sewage.
I read it in 2 sittings, transfixed.
It's a must read. In fact ½ way through I bought a copy and sent it to a friend, determined that they must read it now! As the title hints at, it's possible best fitted for women nearing perimenopause, but it’s certainly not limited to that. It’s just more poignant for those of us out of our 20s. I can only imagine it being more so in our 50s.
Harriett Osborne is my new female exemplar!
Oh the twists and the level of women knowing it’s not the end, or that creep feeling were excellent.
This book is for any who enjoys murder podcasts, powerful women, feminism, and spooks. Careful for those still dealing with the trauma of sexual assault or murder and missing women.

Despite the themes, this was a comfort read with a majorly satisfying ending and kept a solid pace throughout. The writing wasn’t entirely great, many times something would happen and then in the next chapter the characters retell what happened to each other… another edit would have done wonders. Overall though the characters (and there are many) were incredible and the mystery kept me entertained.

I loved this book. It would be an excellent pairing with [b:Notes on an Execution|57773248|Notes on an Execution|Danya Kukafka|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1631888297l/57773248._SY75_.jpg|90380789]. If you like books with strong women, magical realism, and taking down the patriarchy, this is for you. Thank you to the publisher for the ARC!
