If feminist revenge fantasy is your fall aesthetic, this is a must read! The Change tells the story of three badass, middle aged, powerful women: Harriet, Jo, and Nessa. Catalyzed by how men have repeatedly wronged each of them, their lives are drawn together by events caused by men’s heinous misdeeds. Each woman’s background is thoroughly explored and each is extremely relatable. I was rooting for all three of them. Harriet is my personal hero, doling out justice via plants & poisons. Highly recommended if you like strong female characters, multiple POV, and justice!

I'm really taken aback how good this book was. I was a bit apprehensive after reading where synopsis. Holy moly this was amazing.

The women portrayed in this book are strong and independent. Some have loving and supporting husbands while others have been taken advantage of by the system. I absolutely loved each of them for different reasons. There is magical realism in this book, it does a great job adding to the story and bringing these women together to solve this mystery.

What I want to know is if Kirsten wrote this book as a response to the Epstein Island discovery. It had so many similarities that I was like oh shit. I thought it did such an amazing job at it.

This is a long book but it's pace is really well done. I loved the different perspectives not just from the main women but a few side ones too. It did great job filling in the gaps. I can't wait to see what else Kirsten creates in the adult genre.

This is the story about a woman who is the punishment that fit the crime.
About a woman who is the rage that will burn it all to the ground.
About a woman who is the light in the darkness.

This is the story of three extraordinary women with out - of - this - world powers trying to right the wrongs of their world.
Nessa, whose ability is to see the dead, stirs up a series of dangerous consequences, when she and her friends Harriet, who is the true force of nature herself, and Jo, whose anger and strength burns brighter than the sun, stumble upon a body of a young woman in the woods near the beach.
As Nessa's vision starts showing her more ghosts of young girls, it becomes clear that a serial killer is on the loose.
These three amazing woman will have to join forces to protect their community and their loved ones.

This book delivers the best character, Harriet, whose strength and snarky remarks will make this journey even more interesting.

I had been in a bit of a reading slump lately, i.e., it had been a minute since I had a slam dunk, a can't-put-down book that was going to make me shout about it to innocent bystanders. I asked my reading peeps for something that would fill this void and my friend delivered on all cylinders. I'M EXCITED TO SHOUT ABOUT THIS BOOK AT YOU. I loved it 5000. This book is tasty and scrumptious. A true chef's kiss of literary perfection: a well-written page-turner that caused me to pump my fist in the air in righteous vindication.

This is a book who about women who have had enough and are going to do something about it. It is about women who take their power into their own hands and don't listen to anyone who might say they are too weak or old or powerless to bring about change to their circumstances. It is violent and surprising and thoughtful and I haven't read anything else quite like it.

In The Change, Nessa, Harriet, and Jo are each facing their own personal reckoning with middle age. But when Nessa begins to hear voices, as her grandmother did before her, she knows that she is coming into her power. It's time to help the dead find peace, but she can't do it alone. She finds unlikely allies in Harriet, who is quickly getting a reputation as the unhinged witch in their small town, and Jo, who has waged a life-long war with her body, willing it to bend to her will, but shamed by what she perceives as its failures. But maybe she's wrong. Maybe they've all been wrong, and they have more to offer. And it's going to be a reckoning.

I want all women to read this book. I want all men to read this book. Maaaaybe not all youths because though Kirsten Miller is known as a YA author, I don't know if this would resonate with younger audiences. That isn't to say it's inappropriate, just that I think a revenge story of middle-aged women hits best with people who are middle age, or at least in that ballpark. This book has an almost comic book style of storytelling (not to mention some magical realism) and paints its characters in fairly broad stripes but I found it to be cathartic and fascinating and it's definitely going to be on my top 5 of this year.

I received this book as part of my monthly subscription from Rare Birds Books and I’m going to be honest, from the look of it (yes I’m one of those who judges a book by the cover) I didn’t think it was going to be my cup of tea. It mentions powers and the supernatural so I thought I’d struggle and just not be able to get into it but, and it’s a big but people! Never judge a book solely by its cover because this book surprised me!

There was no danger of not being able to get into and more that I couldn’t get out of it, it’s not the smallest book at 480 pages - hello chunk! But after picking it up I read the first 150 page without stopping… now if that was a standard book that would be almost half way through! As it was, I still had lots to uncover!

I feel like this was more of an immersive slow burn thriller than an at the edge of your seat heart stopper but it still had an unexpected twist at the end. The character development in this was really good as well because Miller took her time with each of the three main characters, I think Harriett was my favourite of the three but they were all pretty special in their own unique ways!

Get ready for your suspicions to be raised while you make a brew and get some snacks as once you start this you won’t want to put it down.
