Ok...I really did enjoy this book (You're probably asking why I gave it a 3 then). It was a really funny book, but I found the drama really predictable and I thought that they could have gone a little more in depth on the whole "spy school" thing. I found what they did say about the school to be the funniest parts of the book, especially what they do in class. I guess that when I started the book I expected a little more drama and a little less romance but I just not a cheesy book type girl. Overall, I did enjoy the comedy enough that I would read the second one.

i am not the intended audience so i tried to kill the part of me that cringed. the characters sounded/acted more like 12 year olds than high schoolers; a bit dated but still somewhat entertaining.

I am re-reading this because I don't remember finishing this in my youth..
that being said, the premise of this series is so cool.
Cammie goes to a high school for girls to be spies. Her mom is the headmistresses and both her parents were spies. Already what a legacy.
She gets a hot new teacher (Mr. Solomon, I AM old enough for you) and training starts to heat up.
On one of her training missions, Cammie meets Josh.. Ah first young love
She can't tell him she's a spy in training so she has to lie a lot, and its interesting how much everything means to her at 15 - when the adults know exactly what's going on
My favorite moment is that after Josh is upset after finding out the truth he still tries to rescue her from (another) training mission. The kids will be okay.
I met Mrs. Ally Carter herself and she was so cool. I'm excited to see how well this series has help up in the decades since.

This book disappointed me. I was ready for detailed description of 'spy classes'. And girls just being generally intelligent and making decisions well above their age dictated they should be making.
What I got was another teenage girl obsessing because a boy said her cat was lucky. Now, I'm not saying that's not realistic but half the book is spent exploring her feelings for a boy she consistently lies to.
I enjoyed the fact that Cammie was 'the chameleon' (and now I have that song stuck in my head!) and that her feelings for her father were explored.
She didn't even remember her own fake birthday, even though, coincidentally it happened to be her own dead father's birthday. Also I was extremely disappointed that Cammie didn't come to Anna's aid in the pharmacy.
Overall, I felt a lot more could have been done with the idea. The school, the girl's futures and Cammie's relationship with her parents could've been explored a lot more.
I won't be continuing with the series.
