i don’t even care if this is intended for middle grade/lower YA, it’s a fun read!
thoughts while reading
p19: i don’t approve of the name
p92: josh is a better name, but where’s liam? (could have sworn i saw a minor series spoiler with a dude called liam)
p130: a family of j names? i wonder what we would’ve have been. clarice?? colin?? connor??
p211: it must be the anniversary of cam’s dad’s death
p231: well whatever you decide, hurry up about it, cause josh is about to start questioning where you are! maybe shoulda given him an alias instead
p308: not the tea! ☕️
Minor: Death, Violence, Grief, Death of parent

I picked this up because I liked Heist Society and heard a lot about Carter's spy-girls series because of it. While I liked Heist Society a lot more, this was a fun, light story about a group of girls attending a spy school that masquerades as a sort of "finishing school" for rich society girls. Still, I was surprised by how much the storyline focused on investigating a townie boy, rather than something more weighty. Not like national security needs to be the main topic of every spy story, but boys? Maybe I am just too old. Side plots involve a new spoiled-rich student who isn't supposed to know she's attending a spy school; a new (male! gasp!) teacher at the academy and his relationship with Cammie's spy-mommy, the headmaster; and uncovering the truth behind the death of Cammie's spy-daddy (this comes in more at the end).

Cammie and her friends attend a top secret school for spies where they study 14 different languages and PhD level science. But soon, they'll find out that there's one thing their school hasn't prepared them for: Boys. Cammie's misadventures in spy dating are hilarious and easy to relate to. This is a great start to an amazing series.

Funny and captivating, but a little sad and absolutely in the shadow of the second book.
This was a fun book to read about romance, humor, etc. I can't wait to read the sequel!!
I loved this book until a bit after the mid-way point. Then it dragged oh so much. It sort of killed it but besides that terrific. Great plot and captivating characters.
