I’m making my way thru Newberry books…This one reminded me of The Empty Pot. Simple story with many good lessons and themes. Did not like this one as well as LSP Long Walk to Water
What a great book! I only read this because I joined a group with a few friends to try and read all the Newbery Medal Winner books, so this was my first one. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. If the rest of the winners are this good, its gonna be a fun challenge. I will never look at tree fungus the same :)
I found this book in the young adult/children's section of a used book store, and seeing how it was in fairly good condition and 75 cents, I figured, why not? I am glad, however, that I read it. Some say it speaks of a boy's journey into becoming a potter, but I think it more details an orphaned child's actualization into a life full of love and acceptance by means of the art of pottery. The detail about the process of creating celadon works is amazingly specific, and I appreciated reading more about the process itself through this narrative. In the end, it made me want to see what I can do about finding these magnificent works of art in real life.
