Brisbane and Julia must investigate a murder at the March home. Julia's own cousin is found standing over the body and confesses to the murder, though Julia and Nicholas soon discover it is impossible.

Fabulous as usual! Some of my favorite characters and wonderfully atmospheric plots.

Silent in the Sanctuary read like the game of Clue. It was an interesting mystery with back-n-forth banter that added an element of enjoyment while the read was quick, intriguing and dabbed with a bit of romance.

Loved this book even more than "Silent in the Grave"! A great series!

Read it, loved it, forgot to review.

The world of Lady Julia Grey expands a little as our heroine finds herself in a murder mystery in her family's estate. It's been six months since the first book—which I appreciate because it gives some space and time for feelings and characters to evolve (and for Lady Julia to deal with mourning her husband a little more). Nicholas Brisbane continues to be smoldering, and naturally the two of them are pulled into an investigation that has many, many, twists and turns. A totally fun read.

Fantastic book, great mystery, lots of different threads that all came together, can't wait to reread the next book!

Much better than the first book. The supporting characters were fun and the murder mystery, while not too sophisticated made it an easy, entertaining read.

Really glad I read Veronica Speedwell first, but I am loving the Lady Julia books. Slow burn romance, quirky large family, heroine who is coming into her own strength, mysterious hero, twisty light mysteries. Right up my alley.

Lady Julia Grey's adventures continue, picking up six months after the end of the previous book.

After discovering the truth about her late husband and his death Julia has been travelling in Italy in company of two of her brothers, when their father summons them home after learning that one of the two got married. The siblings, along with a new acquaintance that seems to have developed feelings for Julia, are preparing to go home with various degrees of excitement.

The last person Julia expects to find at her family home is Nicholas, whom she's had no word from in all that time. She pretends she was not at all bothered by that fact, or by the beautiful young woman he introduces as his fiance.

Her Christmas holidays seem less restful than she expected, and when someone turns up murdered just as they are all snowed in the manor, Julia is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery of the murder, as well as finding out what Nicholas is hiding.

SpoilerTurns out that one of her two cousins was responsible for the murder, if only indirectly, by manipulating another guest into killing her blackmailer. The reason behind Nicholas's presence was both her father's matchmaking efforts, and a case that Nicholas was on that had him investigating his "fiance" who was a notorious jewel thief who had absconded with one of the royal pieces that he was tasked to retrieve, that Julia ends up finding for him.

As engaging as the first book, with Julia being more secure in herself and knowing what she wants after all she's been through. There is a tiny bit of progress in her relationship with Nicholas, but the two still have a way to go before reaching even a happy for now, much less a happily ever after.

The series continues with Silent on the Moor and a visit to Nicholas's newly inherited .ruined estate

Silent in the Grave (Lady Julia Grey, #1)

I think I may have loved this one more than I did Silent in the Grave. And I'm slightly in love w/ Brisbane. I may need a time machine to go beat up Julia and steal him. Or at least hang out with Portia, Jane, and Puggy!
