A lot to take in. I read this in a long span of time in order to think and process each essay or speech I read since although many of these concepts are foundational to intersectional feminism & racial justice, I lacked a deeper understanding of a lot of topics that this book enlightened me on. Some parts did feel a little meandering, but it didn’t bother me too much.

Lorde is a phenomenal poet and philosopher, I found it easier to listen to the audiobook than read because I’m not super well versed in reading poetry! Her classic feminist essays such as Uses of Anger or The Masters Tools are excellent, but there were a few gems that really stood out for me such as her interview with Adrienne Rich and the final piece on Grenada and the US invasion.

I was really hoping by the end of this collection, I would recognize one, but I didn't, which is a jab at the US education system because these should be taught in English classes.

Also it's really striking how much hasn't changed.

If you haven't read these yet, read them.
