I think I've started to learn a really great skill here. I've blogged a little about my progress here http://www.triplethreatlibrarian.com/2014/11/learning-to-sketchnote.html and will probably post more in a separate post later.

This is a way of writing notes which I've been doing since highschool but didn't know its rules (?) And different ways.
I did it mostly because I wanted to prevent myself from boredom and sleeping!:))

Now about the book:
It was written in this method all along and had some different style on that.
There were different writers and designers sharing their styles and experiences with us.

It emphasis on this not being about illustration and is a way of writing and not painting and doing very artistic things about that.

After watching couple of workshop videos from Rohde, I was excited to get more info about sketchnoting and ended up reading this book. I loved this technique so much. Can’t wait to try sketchnoting myself soon. The book itself is a Sketchnote so it’s very easy to read and grasp concepts. The book format proves why sketchnoting works. I was able to read quickly but still get all the information, instead of reading boring passages for pages together like in other books. I am planning to convert some of my travel journals to Sketchnote format for easy reading.

I loved reading this book! There were so many tips and examples present in this book and I loved how the information was presented. I also liked how this book stressed getting the information down with visuals that represent the writing without worrying about making you sketches realistic or super artistic. As someone who is a visual learner, this will definitely come in handy during meetings, presentations, classes, etc. I also look forward to testing this out with my students in art class.

Revolutionized my note taking. I've been a slave to every word. Now I'll process the talk or interview ~ and have eye-catching, impressive notes in the process.

Feeling inspired. Now I just need a conference/meeting to give this a shot. Donalyn Miller is coming to town later this month - there's my chance. I'm definitely not an artist, so we'll see how it goes.

I bought this book on a whim while attending the SXSW conference. I continued to take my insanely detailed, written notes while at the conference and then watched the videos and read the book when I got home. Then I was kicking myself for not reading it sooner! The book notes that taking detailed written notes can be stressful - so true! I am looking forward to putting the sketchnote method into action and hoping to improve my active listening skills as a result.
