I was very disappointed in this book after reading the Heartbreakers. I have a review for the first book where I explained how much I loved it because I read it at the beginning of high school and thought this stuff was good to know. Any way, I fell in love with Drew and Sydney because I thought they were "destined" for each other and their storyline in this book turned me off from them. By the end of the book I was so done with this novel.

You gotta read the first book, Heartbreakers because it's definitely a continued of that. I love how adorable the rules are : Rule 2 : Act coy, not shy and rule 13 : don't be bossy. etc. i wish they'd be a third book though. It feels incomplete

Way to much extra description that just distracts from the book. The characters lack depth and there is not a lot of emotional resolution. Note some content may not be suitable for all readers. Reviewed for VOYA

I really, really enjoy this series! I read the first book almost 5 years ago, so when I found this one at the library I was very hesitant; would I still enjoy this? Would I still care for these characters? Would their storylines and worries still appeal to me? I needn't worry. While I did find myself pissed off or irritated at times, The Crushes was still a very entertaining book.
It is neither a perfect nor a "deep", almost philosophical contemporary. But, to be fair, it never tries to be. Its simply language and narrative, the very real and relatable characters make it enjoyable anyway. I always felt like this cast of characters could be my classmates, my friends, people I know. Their struggles, their hopes and dreams, are so common among teenagers and they are presented in such a fascinatingly simple way it warms my heart.
