Reading this novel while watching the Paris Olympics with the Eiffel Tower in the background was just the perfect setting for reading enjoyment.
Aimie Runyan does a wonderful job illustrating the story of Gustave Eiffel’s legacy seen through the eyes of his eldest daughter Claire. While it is a book of historical fiction, Aimie did the research to make sure that the accuracy and details of Eiffel’s projects was accurate. So accurate in fact, my French husband wasn’t even aware that the Eiffel Tower was originally designed to only stand for 20 years!
I love a good historical fiction novel, and this one did not disappoint.

Thanks to William Morrow and NetGalley for the digital copy of this book; I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I am always a sucker for historical fiction based on biographical fact. And I love this trend of finding women who were previously lost to history because of the famous men in their orbit. That’s what drew me to Mademoiselle Eiffel, the story of Claire Eiffel, daughter to the famed architect of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The attention to detail in the story, the sights, the sounds, the foods, all added to the story, but at the same time I kept wanting the story to hurry up, if that makes any sense. I’m not going to rehash the plot, but this depiction of Claire and the sacrifices she made to keep her father’s company in the family are to be commended, and yes, the world needs to know that! Gone are the days where men are lauded for their accomplishments, because it’s well-known that behind every successful man is a woman doing ALL the things to help make that happen

Aimie Runyan’s newest historical novel has a fascinating French flair. Have you ever wondered how the Eiffel Tower came to be, this that story through Claire Eiffel’s eyes. Claire was a real historical figure, and the re-imagining of her life is so compelling.
When her mother passes away, Claire becomes the maternal figure for her siblings. She is also an artist. She helps her dad with his work and continues to make sacrifices throughout her life.
The story goes on to cover her friendship and later marriage to Adolphe. The writing is silky smooth and fully immerses one in this grand story.
Overall, Mademoiselle Eiffel is a beautiful tribute to family and the tower that became a landmark for generations. Another favorite by this author.
I received a gifted copy.

Everyone knows what the Eiffel Tower is but what is the story behind it? I love that this is history that I knew nothing of. I had no idea that the Eiffel family was behind the bridges, buildings, and towers in many places of the world, not just Paris. They are a sought-after architect family.
Mademoiselle Eiffel is the story of the Eiffel family and their trials with their business, their family dynamics, and the Eiffel Tower. I felt for Claire and her need to grow up so quickly after the loss of her mother. She had to run the household, take care of her siblings, and help her father with the business. She did it all without complaints. Her father respected her opinions and asked for them often, I think that helped her handle all the responsibilities. Claire is a little-known historical character that, in the background, had much to do with the architecture of Paris and other places of the world. I learned so much about her in this book.
Aimie K. Runyan wrote a book that I did not want to put down. The history of this book is unique and not a history that I have ever read about.

I learned a lot about the construction of the Eiffel Tower. Runyan's research is evident in the writing of this book as she weaves the story of Eiffel and his family. His wife dies at a young age leaving their oldest daughter to fill her shoes for her younger siblings.
Although she happily does it, she would also like a life of her own, but wouldn't dream of disappointing her father. Through all of the familial relationship turmoil, there is all of the delays to deal with s well.

Understandably the author had very little of Claire’s personal story to go off of, but at times the character development felt a little forced and even off-putting in the effort to portray her as a woman ahead of her time and held back by station and conventions.
However, as the story continued I found myself invested in Claire and her father as his career progressed and her family grew, so in that regard I’d say the author did win me over to care about Claire Eiffel. I do enjoy hearing about the lesser known people in famous world histories.
