A gift from my husband, after we watched Ľubica Čekovská’s Here I am, Orlando in Brno over the Christmas holidays. The opera was inspired by this seminal work by Virginia Woolf and it definitely captured the chaos and ridiculousness of this book.

It was incredibly novel and practically revolutionary for its time and the fact that it’s written for her lover, Vita Sackville-West? -chef’s kiss-.

I did struggle through the early 1900s writing style and found some parts incredibly dull and draggy. But that might be a me problem, I’m notoriously bad with old European literature.

Woolf was truly ahead of her time in the way she played with time and gender roles. A refreshing biography that didn‘t take itself too seriously
