Adam Silvera is masterful at making you care about characters so much within such a short period of time. I mean, you meet these kids for less than 24 hours and I would die for them. (Not literally) It was not hard for me to believe the way their relationship developed - I think, given the circumstances, that 24 hours is a very decent amount of time to get close to someone.

I really liked this story and the characters, but I didn't get as invested as I've heard others have, partly because I found it hard to believe that Death Cast would ever be a thing and that people would like it. To me it seems only like a way to make people scared or indifferent on their last day and to make self-fulfilling prophecies happen. Mateo said it himself in this book: what if we're dying because we met? What if they were dying because they met on an app for people who have been predicted to die that day? The concept of Death Cast just seems like a terribly bad idea for me and that left me cynical at times - but that's on me more than on the author, I think.

Wow did this book make me cry! Even though, it says it in the title, I was still hoping for an exception- a prank. This is a story that leads the reader to think about mortality and what a person does with their life. What would you do if you knew you were going to die that day? Who would you spend it with? What would you want to see? I'm glad Mateo and Rufus were happy together even if it was for a day. This book was beautifully written and it sucks you right in with the switching between characters povs. I hope they can have the tea in the afterlife.

I think this book was written to primarily tell about the importance of life and love instead of telling a story. This book wasn't super plot heavy or anything, but it was a book you could read and reflect.

Started off pretty slow, picks up a little around part 2, stomped on my heart.

I liked the plot. Really clever idea but I feel that the way that Rufus spoke came across as quite stereotypical and even slightly racist.

The title already tells you what to expect but it still hurts when Mateo dies. What hurt me the most was how suddenly it happened. You know its going to happen but still, when it does happen, you're not ready for it. If that was the author's way of emphasising how unpredictable death is, he definitely succeeded.

I loved how there were so many stories that were interconnected. It was like a reminder that you might be going about your life thinking its worthless but your presence might've inadvertently made a mark in someone's life.

Not going to lie, I did lose my interest in this book at the mid-way point because it felt like it was dragging on aimlessly for too long but as the ending of the book drew closer, I was definitely more invested.

They Both Die at the End is a masterclass in world building and detail work, and the format really, really works. definitely not a lighthearted book by any means (shocking, i know, for a book with this title), but there’s a lot of joy and life packed into these pages.

Bold and blunt. Made me smile, sad and angry almost all at once. I liked how as you read on you see more peoples’ narrative being written and you get to connect the dots yourself, I don’t think I’ve read anything like it.

This was so beautiful and enjoyable, it certainly lives up to the hype in my opinion.
