I loved this book- it was a very uncomfortable read for me but resonated in a deep part of my soul. I have found myself praying differently and thinking long and hard about new things since starting it. I am interested to see some people refer to Jen's tone in this book as "preachy" or "condescending" or "sermonic"-- these are not words that I would ever use to describe Jen given my familiarity with her writing and speaking. I found her tone passionate, urgent, and convicted, but certainly not condescending. Similar to Jen, I have a background of legalistic baggage, and it is an ongoing process for me to understand how to live as a Christian - and interact with the world around me - knowing that I am free of that baggage.

(2014) This was my first dive in a Jen Hatmaker book. I found her insights interesting and thought-provoking. The first half of the book focused on how God interrupted her life and the second half was all about what their family did as a result of their "faith re-awakening" (i.e. plant a new church). It did get a bit repetitive, but it was an overall good read.

Disclaimer: this is not a how to book for making your church missional-minded. It's more of a commentary about why it's so important to be so. Jen shares from a place of learning after reading and living through a time when God re-oriented she and her husbands lives around how to BE the Church.

I loved it. This book is hard to read because it confronts complacency in me, but it's also exciting to think about what God could do when we give people what they need - not a handful of cash or a moment of prayer - spending our lives on giving others dignity and grace. My prayer is to see my church living on mission, knowing that Monday through Friday shows us alive or dead.

"Interrupted: When Jesus Wrecks Your Comfortable Christianity" pretty much sums it up. Jen addresses the discomfort of change, of transformation. She addresses the beauty of change, of transformation. And she addresses that change and transformation don't come overnight. You've got to work for them whether individually or as a church, we need to meet people where they're at. Love first. It's so simple.

I would give this book more than five stars if that was an option! Interrupted meets me where I am in my spiritual journey and answers questions I didn't know I had about living on mission and being in community. I appreciate her honest and humorous accounts of her life before it was interrupted and after. If you've read her book 7, then definitely pick this one up. They're almost like a two-part memoir, Interrupted providing the backstory to her project against excessive living in 7.

An encouraging book for anyone interested in more for their spiritual life. It's not a how-to guide but a story that shows what happens when God shakes things up and people respond in obedience.

Much of this book resonated with me and where we currently are in our ministry. This was my first Jen Hatmaker book, and I am interested in reading others.
