A Little Hatred is everything I could have dreamed for and more. Savine’s factory scene is Abercrombie’s best piece of prose to date.

Easily one of the best books I've read. Joe Abercrombie has never disappointed me yet. I walked into this book with extremely lofty expectations, and every single one of them were exceeded. The new characters are fresh and exciting with great introduction and character growth in book 1. This novel did something that The Blade Itself did not do as well, in that the first book had a intriguing plotline that set up the characters and future books at the same. If you haven't read a Joe Abercrombie book, you should.
For some reason I just lost interest
Got to 87% before I gave up on it.

Enjoyed the book but I'm hesitant to call it an all time great. All of the plot lines and POV switching felt satisfying. The character depth in this book is great and really drags you into having mixed feelings towards multiple characters. Usually you can group people into pretty clear cut good/bad and outside of a few characters you couldn't do that in this book.
Spoiler filled pro/cons below:
Pro:
- Loved the depth of characters here and how you can't easily pigeon hole them. Yes Savine is a bitch a lot of the time, but she does nice things some of the time and was able to survive being poor for a bit. Orso finally tried to do the right thing only to be fucked over by his father. Leo seemed ok for most of the book until you find out he hates brown people/gays and is stupid. I appreciate that I can have a range of feelings toward characters(outside of Rikke who is just great and Stour who is a terrible) and understand their motivations as they make decisions.
- Rikke always shitting herself when she has her visions will never not be funny to me.
- Savine being a brother fucker will also always be funny to me.
- The flow of POV's in the middle of chapters was really cool. I don't mind the single chapter = single POV parts of the book, but I felt like the format really shined once they weaved together in a chapter.
Cons:
- I wanted more death? It felt like it was pretty obvious who was going to end up dying outside of the surprise killing of Slate at the end of the book. I really thought some of the POV's would be killed along the way in this book and more characters introduced. It just felt off in this type of a story for all of the major POV's to basically escape the first book without anything too bad(outside of Stour having a fucked up leg for a bit) happening to them.
- The Breaker plot line ended at the 70% mark which was a bummer. I know they will show up in the 2nd book again, but it would of been nice to see a weavers POV or someone else from that group sprinkled in at the end of the book.
- The love square between Rikke+Orso & Savine+Leo felt off. Especially since Leo+Rikke could of just had a conversation and resolved their differences but instead was like nah going to toss this relationship away. Felt very YA romance trope and didn't really fit in with the rest of the book.
Curious:
- I wonder if Rikke's dad dies at the start of the 2nd book or if the vision was about the King Jezal

Wow! What a way to start the trilogy off with a bang. So many interesting characters and interesting take on the European inspired fantasy world. Really looking forward to the sequel. I can sense that they have a big storm comin’.
