my favorite first law book so far

+ I've had issues with Abercrombie's pacing before but alh was perfect
+ first female povs that I loved
+ GLOKTA is back
+ meeting everyone's kids
+ I love orso. he feels like jezal's son
+ glokta and savine made me

How can I rate this book? I mean, it has all the qualities that made me in trance with Abercrombie's The First Law series. But is it possible to have too many good things? The answer from this book is, yes. In the end I couldn't finish the book because the world he created was just too bleak for me, and the characters were too brutally realistic, but in the worst possible way. I feel genuinely sad about this because not sure if I could pick up his books again in future. Melodramatic? Perhaps. It's probably better for my soul though.

As usual Abercrombie character work, dialogue and laconic sense of humour make this a very enjoyable read.
