3.5 stars. Soooo I thought it was about vampires which it was but there were also paedophiles which was unpleasant to read and then think about it. Some of it dragged on a bit then the ending rushed by. Eli and Oskar had very sad stories no wonder they were drawn together. I wonder how they will survive with just each other?

The narrator was great but the writing style just isn’t conducive to audio

I feel like every Scandinavian book I've read is dark, dreary and full of terrible people. Somehow Lindqvist kept it bloody entertaining though.
The book painted some very graphic images and actually made me cringe a few times (no small feat). I liked Oskar, he was well developed and the relationships with the other kids felt really grounded, it didn't feel like a Stephen King story where the bullies are just pure evil.
Vampire elements were handled well keeping a lot of their classic traits and even providing explanations for some (the monster/virus in the heart)
The cast of characters were good but a bit hard to keep track of with names like Lack, Locke, Larry, Jimmy, Jonny and Tommy. Everything came together pretty well in the end

Loved the movie and was looking forward to getting immersed in the creepy atmospheric vibes that I was sure would be heavier by an order of magnitude in the book. I was not expecting the pedophilia content that present in the narrative in the first 80 pages. No thank you. Maybe I missed more subtle indications of this in the movie.
