Really tough subject matter while also being incredibly unique. Loved the illustrations and couldn't put this one down. I hate seeing any type of cruelty to animals but I am also aware that turning a blind eye does nothing for the animals so I am thankful for the people who raise awareness in any way that they can, whether intentional or not.
And yes, I do realize that this is a work of fiction and that there are not likely cats, dogs and rabbits running around in high-powered weaponized armor. However, animal testing is shamefully real and prevalent.

I didn't like it and kind of felt like throwing up, but because it got such an emotional reaction from me (viscerally brokenhearted all evening) I gave it an extra star.
While the story didn't have an incredible amount of depth, the artwork was some of the best I've ever seen. I'll definitely be on the lookout for other work by Frank Quietly.

The military weaponizes a dog, a cat, and rabbit. Gives them armor, weapons, rudimentary language skills, sapience (if they didn’t already have it). Sends them out to do it work, which they do brilliantly.
But there are those who are disturbed by weapons who can talk. The project is decommissioned. This is about what happens next.
A great meditation on all those shaped to serve others’ ends, then abandoned. All through, the dog wants to be a good dog. A good dog with mecha weapons.
It made me cry.
