Even after a second read through this remains one of my least favourite King books. My first time reading it I found it so slow going and not much changed the second time around. It took forever me to get into it and I felt like it was just dragging on and on. The idea was so promising but I thought it lacked a lot of King’s usual OOMPH for me. I felt zero connection to any of the characters, they felt flat and two dimensional to me. And that makes it hard for me to enjoy a book because me connecting to characters is very important to my enjoyment of a story. I really loved the idea of Christine though, and that’s why this story is still getting three stars and not a lower rating. It’s also one of the very rare cases where I’ll actually say I preferred the movie over the book, quite shocking I know!

This book was very much a slow-burn build-up to the drama. It focuses around a car 'Christine' and the trouble that she brings to their small town. I really liked this book at first - I liked how it was set-up and 'Christine' is introduced pretty much at the start, which is important given that she's such an important aspect of the book.

For the majority of the book (around two hundred and fifty pages or so), there is a general feeling of uneasiness towards the car. Many characters express that they find themselves uncomfortable being in her presence and recognise that she is negatively changing her new owner. It just takes a lot of time before we can discover just how troublesome and dangerous she really is, proving to the reader that these feelings were justified.

I did really like this book and I am torn between rating it three or four stars, so the rating may change in the future. I quite enjoyed this book and it was definitely a different experience to the other Stephen King books that I have read (this would be my third book of his). It was actually the first one where I went in with little prior knowledge of what to expect and I turned out to really enjoy it.
