Honestly thought I’d rate this book low. I started reading it about a year ago, got halfway, and then came back to it this week. Whilst I forgot most of the relations of many characters I quickly remembered and became fond of them again. The book is slow moving, and the language (especially coming from recently reading a lot of YA) was a big change to understand what was happening but I am so impressed by Austen’s ability to create such vivid personalities for the characters in the way that she does, through mainly dialogue and a bit of description, that I feel I know them and I found myself smiling or laughing in many humorous places. This book actually means a lot to me and made me really happy at the end, I also love Elinor, she is such a perfect character and the centre of the whole book, clearly. I can’t believe how my scepticism has turned to admiration of this book and Austen as an author in just a few days.

Hay una frase q me descolocó "I only mean that I suppose from your manner of speaking it must be the same to Miss Morton whether she marry Edward or Robert" La mujer simplemente es un adorno en la sociedad y para Jane Austen eso no pasa desapercibido y lo anota en el libro.

Listened as a radio drama

As per usual, this novel is a pleasure to read for the writing style itself. Jane Austen manages to turn irony and the critic towards a society, with sometimes absurd rules, into art. The dialogues, with their usual wittiness, and the deep psychological study of the characters; makes her novels magnificent. Focusing on Sense and Sensibility, I have to say that I may not have felt so attached to the main characters as I did with some of her other novels, but I liked how we get introduced to new female characters that represent different personalities in a society that with its classism oppresses more than it favors the people. We get to meet an excessively sensitive person and another one that loses for relying too much on her sense, and in their dissimilarities we get to see the same reality as two complete different ones. I’ve really enjoyed how some matters that were considered taboo back then (those referred to a woman’s virtue), are treated here and they have an impact on the plot. Also it was refreshing in a way to see how the economic statuses of the characters have so much weight in the situations that occur, and not just for the main characters. I can’t help feeling that the end, regarding one of the characters, was a bit rushed; but needless to say, I consider this a really good novel.
