What an inspiring read! This book does not only consist of the life story of Mr. Kalam but is all about lessons he left for us to learn from. The way he wrote his ideas into words is brilliant and there are not enough adjectives to praise his work. He was a great personality and I loved reading about him and his work. He was the pride of India and an inspiring human being. This book made me feel happy and taught me so many life lessons. I loved this book tremendously and would highly recommend it.

i feel like i'm not worth enough to review this book!
it's a bit of everything from a motivation to management techniques
i always had reverence for dr kalam because of the things i heard of him and after reading this book it increased by many folds
this book gave the best account of who he actually is and what makes him 'kalam'
almost every page of the book has something to teach you no matter who you are and what you are doing. some of them are really inspiring and could relate your life situation in some way
there are some technical details which i could correlate with the theory that i studied in my aeronautics degree. nevertheless, i feel anyone can understand what he is trying to say
i wish anyone who has this book should read it without any forethought, since chances are there that you might feel later that you should have read this before

There is a lot to be learned from this book, whether you are a scientist or not! I have never seen cold science and universal wisdom so seamlessly woven together. I disagree with other reviewers that you have to be Indian to truly appreciate this book, and I believe that that attitude contradicts what the author stands for. Obviously he was a big supporter of his own country, but that was because he saw his own people losing hope in themselves and wanted to change that. Everyone feels like the underdog at some point in their life, and this book is about taking pride in development and improvement rather than feeling inferior to those who have already developed.

One of those few books I wish I had read much earlier in life. But it's better late than never! This book is written just like Mr. Kalam: in a simple, clear language to describe a complex work and which conveys a message which is inspiring and guiding. How do some people who accomplish great feats live such simple lives and are so clear, confident, courageous and yet humble? Probably these are the reasons they accomplish those feats.

Not only can this book be read as an inspiration for self-improvement and success in professional as well as personal life, but it's also a must read for every Indian. In mere 180 pages, it describes a country's emergence as a self-reliant nuclear power in the world. The amazing narration of how people from diverse fields (engineers, scientists, academicians, students, defence personnel and the government) collaborated to bring India on par with developed nations in missile and rocket technology not only fills one with pride but it also shows that patriotism is not only about fighting the enemy at the front lines, but also about doing your work well and putting the nation above private life. These unsung heroes who may never get famous but the final outcomes of their collaborative efforts not only made all Indians proud but made the world sit up and take note.

And while this book is about missile development, anyone from any field of work can take a leaf out of it about discipline, hard work, continuously striving for excellence, and staying on course despite failures and hurdles. Mr. Kalam will always be remembered as a scientist but he was also a brilliant project manager, leader and a visionary who knew that the success of his work depended on his team and how he nurtured it. And that was as much crucial as the science and technology required for developing missiles. As any Indian who's aware of how bureaucracy and the Indian workplace in general works (full of politics, egos, siloed departments etc), it's commendable how Mr. Kalam managed to make several organizations work together.

Actual rating: 7.95/10 , 8/10
This is an amazing book of an amazing person. I drew inspiration from it, to work hard, to be close to Nature and your roots, to believe in oneself and never be afraid of failures. This man, so humble and so kind, whom I believe after reading this book, always saw the good in people. It's quite evident from how every person is mentioned about here. Yes it gets tad bit laborious to read with all the descriptions about missile rocketry and atomic energy, but the lesson which I got about working, about team management and leadership were worth the effort. He should be an inspiration to every Indian today and his vision should be shared with the whole nation. My only regret is not being able to meet Mr. Kalam in this lifetime. But I hope we can see his dream of India becoming a developed nation which is self reliant in terms of technology coming true soon.

I enjoyed the book more as a biography of Indian Space and Aerospace Innovations/advancements. And less of Dr. Kalam as a person.
But still worth a read to know more about ISRO, DRDL and others in India.
