I adore this book and this series. I’ve read it multiple times, and I’m sure I’ll read it again.
Original review: For once, the sequel was just as good, if not better than the first.

The book meanders around for a while before getting to the plot. But I liked the characters even better than in the first instalment, and there were some surprises along the way. Not the final twist, that was once again very obvious, but there were several times where I enjoyed a surprise. I'd love to know more about the political situation in Eddis and Attolia, though...
These books are absolutely brilliant. I'm a huge fan of character-driven stories, and I love fantasy novels that tell you about the action with maybe a few scenes here and there where the reader gets to read it in motion. And this book gave me that.
I mentioned in my The Thief review that I really enjoy how we don't get the full picture until a few chapters later. It seems almost east for the author bc they don't have to actually write how this and that character knew what was gonna on, which, for some reason bugs me, but I also like it at the same time. It adds mystery and intrigue.
I absolutely adore Eugenides and his relationship with his father and Eddis. He is dramatic, he is extra, he is smart but doesn't think at moments. Love my son.

It took me a while to finish this one because of school reads and overall being super busy with university, but somehow I managed to finish 50% of this book within 3 days? When the book did get going I practically raced through it! The only downside of this book was the romance for me. I still believe it's not genuine and there's more to it than we were led to believe in this book.
The fact that this series is so well thought out, that Gen has become one of my favorite characters because of his cleverness, makes me rate this book at a 4.5/5 star rating! The Thief was a really slow and tedious read, but I feel like Turner managed to make this book a little less tedious. Still, not as fast pasted as most books I've read, but enjoyable nevertheless!

Wow, that was really good. After the first one I was a bit worried that I wouldn't like this book but boy did I enjoy reading this.
The story was much more interesting in the book, and we got to know a lot more about all the characters.

2023 Re-read. I’ve read this book countless times, but it’s alway soo deserving of a review. I just want to point out that besides the excellent machinations that occur in this book, there’s also one of the best love stories as well. Each piece of this book is just sooo well done.
