A good book, but lacked the spark of amazing that the first book of the series had. A lot of the book was dark and mopey, which was completely understandable, but became tedious to read. Overall, a solid book, necessary to move the overall plot of the series along, but not as much fun as the first book.

WOW. This story is incredible. I know for a fact that if I had read it and not listened to it, I probably would have given it 5 stars. Not that the narrator was bad, I just think I would appreciate the poetry and importance of every word more if I had read it. I hope to re-read this and the first book soon. A truly stunning read.

This book had me enthralled. Oh Attolia, so many woman wish they could be you (me I’m one 👏🏻)

I forgot how this book is the absolute height of romance. I scream!

The plot was well constructed, but the presentation seemed oddly detached, like I was reading a documentary about the events. Still liked the book, though.

trying so hard to enjoy this but fell into the same issues as book 1–the story doesn’t start to get interesting until halfway into the book. I like how intentional the writing is, and I’m thankful for the change to third person which gives more colour to the narrative, settings, and characters. but still it’s missing…something. there’s a one dimensionality to this that I can’t quite put my finger on, even though I enjoyed the overall plot I’m still yet to care about these characters and their relationships with one another. maybe this just isn’t the right series for me, or maybe I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping because I found it to be a bit too predictable. I’ll commit to one more book as I’m not ready to give up on this series just yet.

Now THIS is how you write a compelling YA Fantasy series. I checked out the first two on audiobook, but this author’s writing is so filled with hidden breadcrumbs and interesting sentences that I feel like I missed a lot of nuance and will be reading the rest in written form.
