im annoying in that if i have any gripes i will rate a book four stars instead of five bc i'm not Completely Happy with it but this book is very very good. i enjoy how the characters and world were developed from what we knew of them in the first book, and the sort of step up in seriousness of the tone of the series. i think the switch to third person multi-perspective is also a benefit to the story, but also i'm not much of one for omniscient perspective jumping, and i still have like an itch to get closer in and to delve into all of the characters more. turner's kind of like a master of restraint and i'm... someone who likes cathartic excess. c'est la vie. i'll still be reading the rest of them.
One of my all time favorite series, Megan Whalen Turner is an outstanding author who is truly unique
It took me a really long time to read this book. With the summary and the title of the book I assumed that there was going to be a romance with the Queen of Attolia and our their... and I just didn't freaking want that. oKay I wanted no part of that and after reading the first couple chapters.. I put the book down 8 different times... I would get so freaking mad. There was no way I was going to enjoy seeing a romance develop after what she did to him. And to be honest most of the book was about war.. the romance still bothers me.
Other than the romance part the book was fantastic. I love how Turner writes.

I adore all of Megan Whalen Turner's Thief books. A book that spotlights Irene of Attolia and her relationship with Eugenides of Eddis is a true pleasure.
I had seen so many saying that this book was better than the first, and I have to agree!
