This was one of my favorite books as a child. To be honest I still read it and enjoy but feel no shame for doing so. Some people say the book is boring and old. I disagree. I say that the book is not only a classic example of small town American comedy, but is also a beautiful story of a man and his pet...penguin? Yes, a penguin. You will just have to read this book to see what sort of things can happen when you keep 10 penguins inside one tiny home!

A little odd. And the audiobook version narrated by Nick Sullivan ISBN 9781478963998 has music added in most sections which I don't enjoy.

Whimsical and witty! It started off very strong, but fizzled out over the second half of the book once Popper's Performing Penguins went on tour. 3.5 stars, rounded up.

Cute classic. Started reading with O (11) but he was bored with it. Started over with E (9) and she liked it.

I just finished reading this aloud to my 7 year old and 5 year old sons. It was actually requested by my 7 year old after his teacher finished reading it to him at school. I had read it when I was young and thought it would be fun to read it again. This is a super corny, but a cute story about a man who ends up with a bunch of penguins in his house. Because it was written in the 1930s, my kids didn't understand certain terms or the way they did certain things. But it brought up some good discussions. My 5 year old could not stay interested, however. My 7 year old really liked it. I thought it was a cute and engaging story, but wouldn't consider it a favorite by any means.

Read this because I love penguins. It’s a charming little read. A story I would read to my future children.
