That was a dumpster fire.
Generally I don't hate dark romance, but I have never seen a more powerless and pitiful main character than Silvia. It's not that she's unlikable, but the constant physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, lack of control over anything in her life, combined with little to no respect she gets from Keir (and even Gil) is too much. The cherry on top of it all is that she is not only forced to become the thing she hates the most, but to also be tricked into a leadershi  position. I think the world building had potential, but I don’t trust this author's judgement enough to read the next book. Definitely will not be recommending.

p.s. the order ain't even make sense.
In a company,  if a worker gets sexual assaulted their not going to continue the abuse just to make sure that they aren't lying. They need some damn HR

DID NOT FINISH: 42%

This was a quick read so I could’ve pushed through and finished, but there was no way it was going to get a good rating and I hate to give self published authors bad ratings, especially when it’s me thing because this was marketed as enemies to lovers so it makes sense that the relationship between the two main characters is toxic as hell.

When I draw the line at is sexual assault, and in this context, there is an assault and then the vampire love interest is helping her and because of the nature of vampire bites end up also having sex with her and I just gave me the ick. I was so uncomfortable, and I was already uncomfortable with one of the other sex scenes between them, so really this was just not a book for me and that’s okay.

This book was kind of weird, in a good way. I am newer to reading fantasy and sometimes the lore can get overwhelming for me. I talked about this book at nauseam with my best friend because we talk about our different experiences reading with me being white and them being black. This book falls into a place that we call "fantasy racism". My main gripe is just how long it took Silvia to stop talking about the vampires as she did for most of the book. Look - I get it, her family was killed by vampires and she was in this cultish vampire hunting ring, but her hate for the vampires as a whole just becomes draining after awhile. I know her entire worldview is like falling around her but I just couldn't really get into it.

I stayed for this book because the chemistry between the two main characters is amazing. The spice is really, really, good. It hit me in all the right places. This book is stupid hot. The plot isn't half bad either. I think the characters are genuinely well done and I felt really connected to the main three. I want to put Gillard in a baby carrier and take him everywhere with me. I felt like the ending was kind of rushed so I am interested to see what happens in the sequel. I am hoping Silvia will have less of the vampire hate that she did in the first book which would make it a lot more readable for me.

I dropped this book at about 40% of the way through, and even that but I’d read was extremely rough. The only thing good about this book was the sex scenes, and even they felt rushed and half-assed. The plot was nonexistent, and the plot points didn’t make sense. The characters were flat and one dimensional. The dialogue wasn’t very realistic. The pacing was shit. It felt like published fanfiction, believe me I’d know. In all, it was just extremely inconsistent.
I was actually really excited about reading this book because it was a new author and all, but it read like only the author eyes had ever seen it.
