Adorable read! The banter between Lottie and Huxley keeps it suspenseful…at any moment Lottie may blow their cover with her sassy temperament.

The sibling relationships on both sides is admirable and interaction between Lottie and Angela at the class reunion is so satisfying.

When Lottie is unceremoniously fired from a job she was already severely overqualified and underpaid for by her toxic ex-friend, she’s left with no backup plan. In jest she heads to a wealthy neighborhood in hopes of snagging a rich husband to take away her problems when by chance she meets billionaire, Huxley Cane. Conveniently, he’s desperately in need of a fake fiancée he spur of the moment made up in an attempt to bond with a hopeful client. The two strike up an unlikely deal to benefit both of their needs, absurd hijinks ensue as they do their best to stick to their promises and try not to drive the other too crazy while hiding their inevitable budding feelings.

This was just a ridiculous and absurd as you’d expect it to be. The premise is so dumb, but honestly I love a fake dating plot so I found a lot of it so funny and just rolled my eyes, suspended my disbelief and went along for the ride. It’s all very much a spin on Pretty Woman, which this makes several references to throughout, and honestly it’s all very silly, but fun. I laughed quite a few times and the smut is quite good, the tension is teased out for awhile before we actually get anything legit, but that all worked for me. I also really enjoyed their siblings, Lottie’s sister Kelsey was a breath of fresh air voice of reason and Hux’s bros were very funny, which bodes well if I want to continue on in this series since I’m pretty sure it follows them.

My biggest issue though was Lottie herself and how INFURIATING she’d be. The amount of times this woman would call Hux a terrible person, say she hated him, and treated him like utter garbage for truly no reason was beyond frustrating. He creates a literal contract to cover his ass, because this deal is absurd and he has so much to lose, and this dumb bitch doesn’t even READ the damn thing, so when he’ll make mentions to it she acts like he’s this unreasonable monster but girl…DON’T SIGN CONTRACTS YOU DIDN’T READ!! Are you a moron?!? And sure he’s stiff and uncomfortable in the beginning, not that I blame him, but in no way does he mistreat her or is cruel as she pretends he is, it was so obnoxious. I truly don’t understand why this man even puts up with her shit, other than she’s hot I guess, because she is HORRID to him for most of this book. And we have the idiotic final cliché fight of every romance book, and in this case it was the only time she had a right to be mad at him, but for her to refuse to talk to him or even hear him out?? C’mon, she’s learned nothing. Part of that problem is this girl is 25! Pretty sure Hux is like early 30’s, and it SHOWS how immature she is. It’s honestly so frustrating what an obnoxious character she was because otherwise this book was silly smutty fun that I had a good time with, but she would just piss me off so much it killed a lot of the joy.

So yeah, a very by the numbers fake dating, billionaire, forced enemies to lovers smut book. Mostly enjoyable and I do think I’d recommend if that seems like something up your alley, just try and reserve patience for a truly obnoxious female lead, because oof, she will press all your buttons. I did like it enough that I do want to check out the other books, especially in hopes we get better FMCs, because I think that’d make all the difference.

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON

The other thing with Lottie is I just do not relate to her. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a gold digger by any means, but if this man offered to pay off my student loans, buy me a completely new and expensive AF wardrobe, put me up in his mansion complete with my own room and anything I could wish for, and in return all he asks is I play along with his insane scheme to pretend to be engaged to him?? I TRULY would not blink a fucking eye, I’d sign up so quickly I’d fall over myself. But even more, this man offered to find her a better job, hooks her sister up with the kind of connections that could make her self-made business take off into the stratosphere, sends her mother flowers, puts in a word to get her step-father’s gardening noticed, listens to everything she’s ever enjoyed and REMEBERS, and takes her to the concert of her dreams on his private jet???? LIKE?! He is insanely generous and it takes this woman at least 80% of the book to recognize it. And even when he’s awkward or curt, he’s never cruel or mean to her, but this bitch is like ‘omg insufferable’ ‘he’s playing mind games’ ‘I HATE HIM’, truly how and why?? What did this man EVER do to you??? I get she feels horrible lying to these people and they have to do these absurd tasks with them she hates, but maybe if you weren’t such an asshole to him, IT WOULDN’T BE SO BAD! Like she even almost fucks up her sister’s pitch to their company! Sure, Hux could’ve warned her that it was his business they were pitching to, honestly Kelsey should’ve because she knows how insane her sister is, but regardless, the way she acted so incredibly unprofessional??? The secondhand embarrassment I felt, and poor Kelsey was like, ‘wtf…this is literally my livelihood, can you stop being selfish for two seconds?’ fucking PREACH!!! UGH this girl!!!

It's annoying because again, otherwise, I quite enjoy the story and their dynamic. They have really good tension and I like the idea that she’s so nosy she pushes him outside his comfort zone with her questions, but also she doesn’t want to take from him, which must be a nice change. I wish she was just overly friendly, like a kill him with kindness type, and wore him down to open up to her other than this forced antagonism. Like she straight up is like ‘we hated each other’ and he’s like, ‘no crazy, I literally never hated you…that was just you’, for reallll. Like even when they admit their feelings and start dating she’s like ‘oh when this ends he’ll want me to leave’ girl…he’s been inside you every chance he gets and is obsessed with you, what the fuck makes you think he’d drop you so easily?!? Are you stupid??

Now, I’ll give her that he is a total ass to her at the end. Basically, we find out that Dave, the client he’s been trying to impress and get the business of this whole time, knows their situation is fake and he doesn’t know how deep shit they’re in, plus it’s mentioned his fiancée Ellie told him, so Hux fears that Lottie told her. To be fair, it’s his brothers that make him think it’s the only feasible explanation, Hux is very much not willing to believe it. But then he comes at her guns blazing and is like WTF DID YOU SAY and yeah, it’s not only so rude that he wouldn’t believe her after they’d officially started for real dating, but also for him to just come at her with that accusatory energy and not discuss it like a normal human? He needed to check himself. HOWEVER, I understand the pressure he was under and the fact that he’s so flipped out because he wants to protect his family and how it’s been established he has a hard time trusting, fair. And the fact that she won’t even hear him out when he immediately realizes how badly he fucked up and starts apologizing. Also if this is a man you love, how are you going to cut and run at the first sign of anything?? The fact that her sister is on his side, preach, me all the way. She has a right to be mad at this moment, but maybe just talk to him and put yourself in his shoes for two seconds. Again, bitch is 25 and it shows, her brain barely finished developing and in Lottie’s case, I don’t think quite yet, oof.

Also on the topic of Dave and this entire insanity. Like I said, I love a fake dating trope and I get Hux felt Dave would never work with him because he couldn’t ‘relate’ to him, so he’s like uhhhh yeah, totally have a fiancée too. But APPARENTLY, Ellie clocked IMMEDIATELY, like their first hang out, that they weren’t a real couple and just decided to see how far they would go making them do increasingly insane shit. Now, as funny as that is, that’s kind of fucked up and then doubly annoys me that Dave keeps putting off discussing business with Hux when he knows that’s the reason. It all works out fine and he can tell they end up developing real feelings, but that whole thing was insane and wild, I also found it kind of fucked up how insane the classes were they’d make them attend and I can’t tell if it’s stuff Dave and Ellie are actually into, because it seems they are, or just to fuck with them, but oh well. I knew they’d find out the truth and the reveal they’ve known basically the entire time was funny, but quite absurd, but the entire thing is so, here we are.

I also wish Hux didn’t propose for real like DURING their fight. This could’ve worked if Lottie hadn’t immediately cut and run, but the fact this girl didn’t sleep at home and didn’t want to speak to him, but then this man sort of grand gestures her and she’s like, you’re right, I do love you, so stupid. Obviously I’m happy they’re happy together and everything works out, but the ending was just quite messy and not handled that well. I did like Hux creating a new, fake contract, that was funny. Also thank GOD we got a flash forward to fulfilling his end of the deal and we saw them attending Lottie’s reunion. Basically, her psycho ex boss/friend, who’s the reason Lottie’s in this bind to begin with, massively fucked her over but has the gall to pretend they’re still friends and Lottie wants to tote Hux around to make her jealous and I REALLLY wanted to see her comeuppance and thank god we did. It was excellent and even better now that they’re a real couple and Lottie could fully stick it to her, that was so satisfying, I was so relieved we got to see that.

And again, the smut was quite good, I love how filthy this is and how insanely horned up these two are for each other from the get-go. Lottie being stupid and infuriating and Hux trying not to mix business and pleasure does fuck up the momentum for a bit, but I enjoy the slow leak tension leading to several excellent moments. It took a bit too long to get to the actual sex, but it was really good and worth the wait. Also it must be said, I have a physical copy of this and at least in the version I do, it has these really terrible artwork littered throughout and it is BAAADD! Like the art style is really ugly, the plot points they choose to depict are so awkward, I do not know why it exists and it was so fucking weird. I mainly listened to this, and the narrators were pretty good, so it didn’t fully hamper my experience, but needs to be said, they need to either get a WAY better artist, or cut that shit out ASAP.

So yeah, a fun romp overall! A friend recommended this, though I don’t remember her thoughts at this point since it’s been a while since that rec so I’ll have to see if we line up, but pleased that on the whole I did enjoy and will read on in this series. The smut is certainly good enough and I’m hopeful with a better FMC, it could be even better.

Chipotle ad with a love story attached to it. I think that covers pretty much everything.

Lottie and Hux have a cute ish story, and I had a hard time putting it down. It was amazing up until the end when Huxley snaps at Lottie and she (rightfully) walks away, and his attempt at reconciliation is a panic proposal. That’s extremely manipulative and I’m disappointed that Lottie, who up until that point stands on business with everything except Huxley, just falls apart for. It isn’t the sweet moment it was intended to be, it just comes off as Hux realizing he’s losing Lottie and not knowing what else to do other than lock her to him so she can never leave.

Not the most thought provoking book but exactly what I needed!!
Team Huxley❣️

Another great one.

if i could review less than one star i absolutely would
the characters were whiny and dickish and every one of them got on my nerves
their relationship was under-developed. the switch from hate to love made no sense and frankly the sex scenes were just cringy
the effort it took to get through this was herculean especially where he fucks everything up. will forever believe she shouldn’t have taken him back but whatever. atrocious truly

Why was this book so good?
It gives me the feels. It cracked me up and I even had happy tears at the end. I loved it.
Lottie is amazing and funny and I just had a great time getting to know her. And Hux. SIR. He’s just an edible grumpy man who is a big softie at heart. Loved him!

I’m excited to read JP and Kelsey’s story
