Young Adult Dystopian Science Fiction.
Who'd have thought it.
I tend to like books that stand on their own. I want to be able to read a series out of order without it mattering. I want resolution. I hate open endings and cliffhangers. There are a few reasons this book should annoy me but it's saved by likeable characters.

That was so good. Holy balls.
I don’t know what to do with myself.

4.5 for me, so close to a 5 so close. I’m a sucker for any book this woman writes.

I hate reading a series when it first comes out because then I have to wait forever to read the next book!
I was drawn in by the synopsis of the story and it got off to a very interesting start. However, I have never been a fan of stories with heroines that are good at everything but can't handle anything that involves emotional maturity. And also irresistible to every man they come into contact with. The romance between Roselle and Hawthorne seemed sudden and unrealistic. He had an obsessive love of her since she was a child from watching her on TV ! It's like a celebrity dating an obsessive fan, not gonna happen. I wanted to like this book but I couldn't get myself to care about any of the characters, and the flow of the story got weird in places for me. Won't be continuing with this series.
I honestly enjoyed reading this. The world is cool to envision. My only big comment (and is sort of a spoiler) is that is doesn't stand on its own. I got to the end and realized I need book 2. I'm not a huge fan of that. I would rather have one large volume or a smaller plotline that gets wrapped up completely leaving a larger one to continue. This felt like it was just completely cut in half.

Loved the idea of this book and the world in which it was set. I became pretty addicted to it. The only reason it got 3 stars and not 4-5 is because of the instalove and not just a little love but a whole obsessive, dependent love which turned me off. I wanted her to be a badass in her own right and not rely on the men in the story line for everything. I think as she gains more power in the future this will change but it was frustrating to read in that regard. Overall, an awesome book and I'm excited for the next one!
**Slight Spoilers Ahead**
Tell me when this sounds familiar... In a dystopian society, where some arbitrary characteristic is used to divide people into classes, a young woman rises to destroy the system by siding with the rebels and bring equality to everyone while simultaneously fostering a romantic relationship with an mysterious attractive male who society forbids her to be with...
Is it Divergent? Is it The Hunger Games? Is it Cinder? Is it every other young adult sci-fi book ever written?
While the storyline is over used, I still enjoyed reading this book (which I got for free as a Kindle First book from Amazon Prime). I was a little annoyed that Hawthorne so quickly moved on from his previous relationship to be with Roselle, citing that he had loved her since he had first seen her on TV as the reason they should be together. There was a brief moment towards the beginning of the book where I thought "Wow, the author is going to let Roselle's attraction to Hawthorne go reciprocated because he is already in love with someone. She's not going to cop out and use the "Romeo & Juliet forbidden love ploy"; I was wrong.

As much as I wanted to love this book, i really didn't. I liked the world amy built but I felt like so much kept happening it was so hard to keep up. I HATED the year time jump and thought it wasnt needed. But overall it was a solid fast read
