I loved this book. I didn't know anything about Marjorie Post before this book. I love that despite being incredibly rich, she was a big philanthropist with starting hospitals and soup kitchens.

Her houses were too elaborate, but it sounds like that was in line with the times. I do hate that Trump lives in one of them.

My only criticism is that it should have been broken up by Marjories accomplishments, not her loser husbands. She really was unlucky with that.

But fighting to be on the board of her company, donating her houses to be winter white houses or museums, giving her ship to the Navy to use during the war, and her philanthropy is very impressive.

I felt sad for her girls that they went to boarding school. But they seemed to have a good relationship with them.

I enjoyed learning about her and thought it was well written.

Marjorie Post led a life so extraordinary, it feels like several lifetimes in one. The author beautifully captures her story through expert research and vivid storytelling. This is historical fiction at its best. Fair warning: once you start reading, you’ll find yourself Google deep-diving to learn even more about the fascinating Ms. Post!

While I liked this book, it seemed to be just a bit too long and slow-moving. I also kind of hate the way the author chose to build the timeline of the book around Marjorie's several marriages, when the story was supposed to be about what a force she was herself. It actually made her seem far more dependent on the men in her life—though this was the early 1900s, so of course she was dependent on them for far too many things relating to her own business. I also couldn't get over the fact that Marjorie is painted as this hugely giving person always willing to help others and always talking about giving back, while at the same time she was building the most opulent palace for herself because she "needed a project." So while I did find the history of Marjorie and the Post company interesting, this book wasn't quite a hit for me.

I read this book on advisement and I wasn't disappointed! What an incredible life Marjorie Post lived an amazingly full life, and on occasion even due to her wastrels of husbands. An excellent read!

Struggled to get into it, the story gets super boring in parts

I wish the author would have included a note about the book was made - her sources, what was imagined/verifiable, but loved learning this history. She would be sick to know what happened to her winter home though.
