If Marjorie Post had an interesting life, I will never know it just by reading this book. She's rich so we get a lot of talk about her projects, but by the end of the book I didn't feel like I got to know where at all. We don't need to hear about every redecoration she undertook, truly. We skip the Great Depression (except for a very brief reference to her soup kitchen) which felt offensive given her wealth. This book makes her sound flighty like she rushed into marriages and then divorced with equally little consideration. Was that intentional? I have no idea, because, again, I don't feel like I got to know her personality at all here.

Historical aspects great, but wish it focused more on those portions rather then her homes and marriages.
This was such an interesting book but so LONG (15 hours on audio). Thankfully I realized I could follow at 1.75 speed and that helped.
I knew absolutely nothing about the history of Marjorie Post, but the story of her and her father, CW Post, was fascinating. I got a little tired of hearing all the details of the lavish parties she threw, but I assume that was a big part of who she was.
The book is divided into four parts. The first covers her childhood, the founding of Post Cereal, and her first marriage. The other three parts follow her other three marriages. While she had a Midas touch with business, she didn’t have it with love.
The book is pretty clean. There is talk about sex but nothing is ever described. No bad language. Trigger warning: suicide.
If you enjoy historical fiction, I think you’d enjoy this book. It was really interesting!

This book detailed the life of Marjorie Post, of the Post Cereal Company family. In addition to learning about her fascinating personal life, I also learned about how her family changed the way Americans cook, eat, and store food in their homes. While I realize that her many marriages and divorces were the talk of the town, I wish they weren’t such a big focus in this book. I’m so curious to look more into the museum that her home has become, and other historical details.

Good story. Likable main character. Nice tidbits of history. But dang girl you don't have to marry every man you have a crush on!!!
