The first person narration did not work for me and made me wish I read a biography instead. Marjorie came off as an unreliable narrator (partly due to flat characters) and like a white savior type at times. I actually like novels with unreliable narrators but was not a fan of Marjorie's voice which I thought would mature with age but it didn't. While there are interesting events in her life, those moments in the book were fleeting. It made sense to have rich details about her material possessions but it felt like that was in lieu of crafting compelling characters and relationships.
