Haven't read Indiana before, and too my surprise, I enjoyed this. It seemed a little too longer, but there are some beautiful passages. It is very much of its time - there is quite a bit about AIDS and its effects on the LGBT community of the time.

One of the best books about relationships I have ever read. Wow, I just finished it and am floored by the beauty of the prose and the devastation of the content
Graphic: Ableism, Addiction, Alcoholism, Biphobia, Body shaming, Bullying, Chronic illness, Cursing, Death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Emotional abuse, Homophobia, Infidelity, Mental illness, Physical abuse, Racial slurs, Racism, Sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, Violence, Forced institutionalization, Blood, Excrement, Medical content, Grief, Stalking, Schizophrenia/Psychosis , Gaslighting, Abandonment, Alcohol, Sexual harassment, Classism, Pandemic/Epidemic
oooh I enjoyed this.
I love books about the complexity of being loved and loving, the pitfalls of desire, and despite the occasional cliches in the narrative (older sadsack writer chasing after younger beautiful but deranged homme fatale ect ect ect) this really dove into these entanglements along with all the tension of being in a toxic, obsessive and masochistic relationship. Towards the end of the relationship the emotional tightline they were walking was just constantly activating my fight or flight so it ended up being a pretty quick read.
The characters are complex and well-defined and it's also an evasive but sharp insight into the emotional and physical toll of the early days of the AIDS crisis, which is rarely centre stage but always essential.
