What fun My Fair Duchess was! From the unique subject matter of a woman inheriting a dukedom to the playful relationship between the hero and heroine, I was instantly charmed by Megan Frampton’s latest story in her popular Dukes Behaving Badly series.

I truly did have a fantastic time reading this historical romance–as I always do with Frampton’s work–and I think readers will be able to enjoy this as a standalone or as part of the series. The first thing to grab my attention was of course the fact that Genevieve inherited the dukedom upon her father’s death. My heart kind of went out to her considering that not only did she not grow up being groomed for the role, but that she didn’t have a huge amount of support as she faced critics and entered into Society.

Ugh, I hate it when my kindle marks things as read before I've had a chance to rate/review. I thought I had that turned off. Anyway, I liked this one. I'm not always a fan of My Fair Lady type plots but this one worked for me. I liked that it wasn't a bet but an unexpected inheritance that required our heroine to get some polish. I also liked that she wasn't a complete rube, just out of her depth a bit. Anyone who's ever gotten a promotion will know the feeling. With a hero named Archie I kept picturing Cary Grant, which isn't a bad thing either.

I am not a huge fan of dukes, yet historical romance is filled with them. So it was nice to read a book that offers a twist with a woman inheriting a dukedom, and her hero being a steward with some aristocratic connections. I love Genevieve, and it is so wonderful to see her come into her own as a duchess, without giving in to societal pressures. And her tension-filled interactions with Archie (and their heavily edited letters) make for an entertaining and comic story.

This one had its moments. Both leads were pretty darn sweet. I liked that it turned a bunch of common tropes on their heads.
But this author's writing just doesn't do it for me. I trip over word usage and break flow. It's too easy to find myself skimming.

A High Five Star's for Megan Frampton's My Fair Duchess. Truly one of the best reads of the year! We first meet Archibold Salisbury, a son's viscount and former war hero in Lady Sophia's drawing room. He's been summoned to tend to the new Duchess who is a relative of Lady Sophia. He's asked to take on the biggest mission of his life, help this young woman learn how to be a Duchess. Genevieve, Duchess of Blakesley has just inherited the duchy and she has no idea how to be one. Her mother died when she was young and her father has died recently, and she's the only remaining heir to the duchy. So Archibold Salisbury is sent to the rescue. She's expecting a harsh, perhaps overbearing bore of a man; however, what appears in Genevieve's doorway is a dashingly handsome man who is as broad as he is tall. Will Genevieve learn how to be a proper Duchess? or will she be the flop of the Ton?

A wonderful, romantic tale with splashes of humor throughout. The love and passion between the H and h will set the pages ablaze. The plot is well written and historically accurate. This series just gets better and better. You will want to add this to your library!

I really enjoyed the power dynamic flip here, along with how comfortable our main characters were in their own personalities. I would have liked to see them stick it to society a bit more, but it was still a lot of fun.

This is my third or fourth book by Megan Frampton (who I think is a kickass human as well as being a talented writer), and I think my favorite so far. I love her voice-- her wit, and the joy threaded through all of her stories. This book is not particularly deep, or probably extremely historically accurate (at one point, the heroine says something like "well, that happened"), but it is engaging and consistent and fun and low-angst, and I love Archie and Genevieve very very much.
