Kresley is a gift to the Romance genera. Fast paced adventures with great imagination and humor. I love that she incorporates old characters into the new books so we can keep up with what is going on. I'm sure this is to help the readers understand where the characters are for when the Ascension comes. If you loved her other novels you'll love this one as well.

Painful to read.

DID NOT FINISH

Every so often I try to read a romance novel. I used to enjoy them a great deal, and every so often I find something I like.

Not this time.

The characters in this story sounded unusual enough to be engaging -- but the writing was too heavy-handed. Just when things should have been really heating up and getting interesting, I yawned and threw the book down.

For some reason, I didn't like this one quite as much as the others in the series. Still an entertaining read, I just think the characters were not as well developed.

IAD is such a fun time. You always know you are going to get some get some great vaguely anachronistic banter, kick ass heroines, and sexy hot paranormal dudes fighting amongst themselves. Swords meets stilettos. Urban fantasy but with layers.

This book has Rydstrom, a rage demon who is characterized as rational, honest, and committed to the cause of regaining his throne, matched with Sabine, the miserly and slightly misanthropic Queen of Illusions.

The King of Honesty meets the Queen of Deception.

Loved the push and pull between these two. Quite satisfying to see them try to best each other and go against their own nature. My only wish was for this to have been more femdomy.

Also, and this is really odd, I heard “What You Waiting For?” for this first time in years and was able to catch the reference on Nix’s shirt. The fates hath *touched* me!

After the scenes last book with Rystrand and Sabine, I NEEEEEEEEDED to know what happened! How did that turnabout happen??

It was kind of fun to watch Sabine take him apart and break him. I don’t even want to know what that says about me. But he is smart and figured his way out. But as they were released and journeying to the portal, I got tired of it real fast. He was being a real dolt about keeping her tied. I could have done without that part.

But once they are back to NOLA it all got interesting again. I love when Nix shows up.

Also - Lothaire??? Mysterious big bad. I know his book is still a bit away but I can’t wait.

I love how this series keeps building and building and the action, romance, and suspense are all so delicious.
