HIS OBSESSION...
Sabine, Sorceress of Illusions: the evil beauty who surrenders her body but not her heart.
HER DOWNFALL...
Rydstrom Woede, the ruthless warrior who vows to keep her at all costs.
THEY WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO WANT EACH OTHER THIS MUCH...
☆¸.••.¸☆¸.••.¸☆¸.••.¸☆
Honestly, this was not one of my favorites in the series.
The plot is engaging, and I can't wait to see what will happen to accelerate the Accession.
Sabine is a horrible character. Liar. Manipulator. etc. She crosses too many lines.
For me, there is just too much sex. I can handle some, but this was very Sex-centric.
Love good ol Nix, who makes a few cameos.
The last third of the book was the best for me. When they land at the camp.
The whole section including Sabine's near death, Rydstrom's reuniting with his brother Cadeon, the sacrifice Rydstrom made for love, and the final showdown with Omort the Deathless. Lots of action- always what I look for in a book.
**I LOVE CADEON**

I'll admit that I was actually a little disappointed in this.
While the overall plot idea was decent and should have just hooked me in, we spent far too much time with Sabine going "but I'm beautiful so who is he to deny me because I'm fated to be his!" and just too much teasing. Which, yes, was what she was going for but at the same time, if Sabine was really interested in getting Rydstrom to break/bow to her, why did the author feel the need to put in an emergency every 30 seconds? Like just give us a week of Sabine coming to Rydstrom and seeing if she could tempt him and having things progress that way.
Overall, Sabine was great, but I also got kind of a naive vibe off her. Based on what we saw of her history, I get why she'd be wary of things, I do. But why she was so surprised that Rydstrom was not only resisting her but trying to escape was just so weird. Especially since she'd supposedly been doing all this research on him and she acknowledged a few times how he was rumored to be kind of single-minded/determined to get his crown and kingdom back, the fact that she was so surprised that he wasn't willing to just jump into bed with her was kind of ridiculous. Then towards the end when he was starting to trust her and she still lied by omission and was super shocked when he finally just gave up, that was just weird to me.
Rydstrom was also decent but I wish we'd gotten a little more time with him. Like in the previous books, he's always been a little more single-minded and focused on killing Omort. And I didn't entirely blame him. But then we spent almost 200 pages with him in kind of a rage-induced confusion where he was fighting his attraction to Sabine and weighing it against getting his kingdom back. And that's fine, but then once they escaped, it felt like there was just a switch to him suddenly deciding that maybe getting his kingdom back wasn't worth it and he wanted Sabine. Weirdly, I did like that he didn't just jump into trusting her. He did acknowledge he wanted her but it was in no way a total "yes she's mine, so she gets everything".

3.5 Stars
Male: Rhydstrom Woede (Rage Demon)
Female: Sabine, Sorceress of Illusions
Plot: She captures (ie kidnaps) him and tries to seduce him into doing what she wants. He's unhappy about this developement.
This book gets the award for having the most messed up relationship so far seen in the series. Sabine has the guy tied up against his will and sexually tortures him for days. It's all very disturbing. Thankfully, the author realizes that it's wrong and presents it that way.
She also tries to bring free will and equality back into the relationship. And that honestly works for the most part. Where it doesn't work is when Sabine refuses to feel any remorse for her actions and is kinda heartless. She's actually pissed at Rhydstron for a large part of the novel and that made me not like her much. I like my characters to have a conscience.
Another little issue with the book is Sabine's lack of investment in the relationship. She doesn't try much for it. And it annoys me a lot when that happens. I prefer for both the characters to care equally. Things are unbalanced otherwise.
Still, I appreciated Kresley Cole's effort to balance the scales, I thought the story was good and I really liked Rhydstrom and his relationship with Durinda, a character introduced later in the book. I would have liked it more, if only Sabine didn't bother me so much.
Reviews for other book in the series:
1. The Warlord Wants Forever
2. A Hunger Like No Other
3. No Rest for the Wicked
4. Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night
5. Dark Needs at Night's Edge
6. Dark Desires After Dusk
Aww... Despite having the bitchiest heroine so far this was actually really sweet.
