French & English reviews
Tout a commencé par un billet de cinq euros trouvé dans la rue et un magazin de livres d'occasion parisien ... =D
En fait, je connaissais déjà cette série et cette auteure pour avoir déjà lu le tome 13 avec les Dacians (Oui je sais, ce n'est absolument pas dans l'ordre mais j'adore ><) et donc je n'ai pas longtemps hésité avant de tester ... le tome 7 du coup xD
Et gros coup de coeur pour l'univers x)
Ce que j'ai particulièrement aimé :
- l'univers dans toute sa complexité avec toutes les différentes factions, Pravus contre Veritas mais aussi les différentes espèces (gros coup de coeur pour les Sorceri mais aussi les Valkyries <3)
- l'intrigue avec le sorcier maléfique que personne ne peut tuer, les apparences trompeuses selon le point de vue des différents personnages ...
- la relation disons "haute en couleur" entre Sabine et Rydstrome =D (qu'est-ce que j'ai pu adorer Sabine et son passé monstrueux qui la fait devenir un personnage tellement complexe et attachant <3)
- Nix <3 (est-ce qu'il faut vraiment dire autre chose ><)
- Lothaire (ahhhh les vampires maléfiques et tordus <3)
Bref, une série de fantasy comme je les aime : un univers complexe, des personnages attachants, une intrigue tordue, de la romance, du sexe et du sang =D
Je fonce lire le tome avec Cadeon le frère de Rydstrome =D (comment ça c'est pas le tome suivant xD ??)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It all started with a five-euro bill found in the street and a Parisian second-hand bookshop ... =D
In fact, I already knew this series and this author for having already read book 13 with the Dacians (Yes I know, it is absolutely not in the right order but I love it ><) and therefore I don't hesitated long before starting ... Book 7 xD
And I SOOOO love the universe x)
What I particularly liked :
- the universe in all its complexity with all the different factions, Pravus against Veritas but also the different species (love at first sight with the Sorceri but also the Valkyries <3)
- the plot with the evil wizard that no one can kill, deceptive appearances depending on the point of view of the different characters ...
- the "colorful" relationship between Sabine and Rydstrome =D (how much I have loved Sabine and her monstrous past which makes her become such a complex and endearing character <3)
- Nix <3 (do I really have to say anything else ><)
- Lothaire (ahhhh evil and crooked vampires <3)
In short, a series of fantasy as I love them : a complex universe, endearing characters, a twisted plot, romance, sex and blood =D
I'm going to read the book with Cadeon the brother of Rydstrome next =D (What ? Why are you saying it's not the next book xD ??)
First read: April 2011. Second read: February 2014. Third Read: Sept 22-24 2018.
I really enjoyed rereading this book. As I have all the others in the series. Narration: 5 stars (as always) Story: 4.25 stars.
Fourth Read: Feb 2023
5 stars. Narration still wonderful but I enjoyed the story a lot more this time around. I really liked it before, this time I loved it. Sabine is just amazing and I love her attitude.
Move over Naomi and Conrad, I have a new favorite IAD book! Sabine, immortal Sorceress of Illusions and Rydstrom, dethroned King of the Rage Demons are hot as hell and I loved every minute of this angsty, bananas, and fun romance.
Taking place concurrently with Rydstrom's brother Cadeon and Holly's story in [b:Dark Desires After Dusk|2003625|Dark Desires After Dusk (Immortals After Dark, #6)|Kresley Cole|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327887013s/2003625.jpg|2007518], we pick up a bit before Sabine kidnaps Rydstrom and see the aftermath.
Sabine is so badass. She's a technical "virgin" but by choice and by troth because if she remains virgin no one can rape her or use her sexually without her permission, which keeps her safe from her perverted and evil half-brother, the sorcerer Omort and current ruler of Rothkalina. She wants to finally give it up to Rydstrom as she wants to be in control of his heir, the true heir to the throne of Rothkalina. She's a temptress, but a bit of an experienced one.
This book reminded me of a historical I found hidden under my mother's bed back in the day. Has anyone else read Johanna Lindsay's [b:Prisoner of My Desire|774060|Prisoner of My Desire|Johanna Lindsey|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348501614s/774060.jpg|1299871]? It has a similar plot line where the female heroine traps a "stud" male in her room to force him to impregnate her, but then is flipped when he is able to do the same to her in revenge. Felt reminiscent in a fun way of a totally bananas book I read way too young.
I'm loving reading these stories along with the Immortals After Dark podcast, Fated Mates!
Probably rounding up from 3.5? I just didn't love this one as much. Most of the really great tension and humor and character dynamics was front-loaded and I found myself getting a little bored after the first hundred pages or so. I love Sabine though.
I really want to keep reading this series but I can't. See, I have to read this one and I DON'T WANT TO. I am scared. I know I won't like Sabine. That's depressing. But I want to at the same time because I love Rydstrom and I love Kresley's writing. So, dilemma, what to do, what to do, what to do.
Rydstrom was pretty awesome as well, I think Kresley did a fantastic job with these two. I just love her writing style and I cannot wait to read the next one and I also cannot wait for Lanthe's story with Thronos!!! How hot is this book gonna be?? I mean, this one was scorching but with all the sexual tension between Lanthe and Thronos, it is going to be delicious!
I seriously do not regret finally reading this book, I was absolutely not disappointed! Kresley Cole did an amazing job again, I love the world she created and I'm so happy that I still have quite a few books to read before the end.
Oh and, how hilariously crazy is Nix??? Love her!
I've finally read this baby and it was amazing!!!! Seriously, so much better than I expected. Surprisingly, I loved Sabine, I was prepared to hate her (she seemed like such an evil bitch in the previous book) but this woman went through so much and I could totally understand her behavior. She was also HILARIOUS!
Egal, was ich über manche Darstellungen und Themen denke, die Immortals After Dark sind einfach alle solche Pageturner, da schlage ich eins auf, lese, lese, lese und dann ist es durch. Außerdem finde ich die Szenen einfach HOT. Sorry anspruchsvollere, auf Consent besser bedachte Literatur ... Kresley Cole ist eindeutig mein Guilty Pleasure, an dem ich jedes Mal Spaß habe, obwohl ich die Seiten eigentlich auseinander rupfen müsste.
Aber na ja, der heiße Dämonenkönig hat seine evil sorceress nach ordentlich gegenseitiger Gefangennahme und Folter bekommen und alle sind happy.
I shouldn't be surprised Kresley managed to make this pairing work. Wild ride from start to finish!
The narration for this one is TOO GOOD. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about Rydstrom and Sabine's romance, which was set up in the previous book and recapped here. After all, he's the rightful king and her brother is the usurper - and she's tasked to use him (and his body) for her half-brother's evil plans. But they were such good foils to each other - Rydstrom is the ultimate good guy, and Sabine is a sneaky sorceress. She's selfish and vain and a little narcissistic. What perfectly sums her up is the scene with the dragon. I love them!
