While there was some appeal in this slim collection of stories, I did not like this book. Much like Frank Miller and W. Somerset Maugham, Raymond Carver has a way of writing female characters that is offensive and ugly. I understand that maybe I'm just not supposed to like any of the people he creates, but there's something about the way he treated the women in this book that left me upset. Will not be exploring any of his other works.

What we talk about when we talk about love? Little nothings big somethings, nothing and everything, reality hanging from our words. This is what Carver tries to capture; nothing matters when we talk about love, nothing makes sense and yet, somehow it does. The ups and downs, the absence of a midpoint, the alethic truth of our existence.
