2.5 stars. gone over this one a lot and definitely had a lot of ups and downs with this book as i read. naturally all the scenes that made the cut for the films are the best ones - coppola was the editor this book sorely needed. it doesn’t quite justify its length (~600 pages) because there are so so many unnecessary chapters. pages and pages about characters irrelevant to the main narrative that i as a reader do not care enough about, so its just dull. you just want to get back to the action.

that said, michael’s development is excellent and his slow becoming of a don is very cool. a lot of the ideas and scenes created ARE great and that’s why the films were also able to be great. i think the book is lacking in a lot and ALSO. Some fucking WEIRD scenes that i didn’t feel necessary and were really icky. men will be men …

probably wont reread because of the length but im glad i did read it. does that make sense yes
