Some years ago, I read Mark Lawrence's Red Sister, which I liked... but somehow didn't like; in a way, it was just too dark for me. (And I have read a LOT of Dark!)
So I have stayed away from Lawrence since then. However, the concept of this story caught my curiosity, so I finally, after some convincing from a fellow book lover, decided to give it a try...
... and boy! am I glad I did! I loved this story!
It's intriguing (a lot of "what the HECK?!") and weird, and had me guessing all the way through - some of the twists nearly broke my neck! It is dark in some parts, admittedly, but also very funny at times. I especially enjoyed the.
Livira is such an insufferable, endearing, brave, curious, loyal character, who will take you on a wild ride - and believe you me, you will be there all the way!
I can't WAIT to see "what happens next"! And am glad I bought the 2nd volume while half way through the first one, so that I can just skip right into it is.

I'm sorry, but Mark Lawrence can do no wrong. He creates characters that I fall deeply in love with, and need to read about their every step in an obsessed manner. I couldn't put the book down and loved the wild ride it took me on.
