PIGMALIÃO sempre vira a vida dissoluta destas mulheres.
conferira à índole feminina, vivia solteiro, sem esposa;

Anne-Louis Girodet, Louvre, Paris

Short but definitely enjoyed this. I like how smart, straight to the point, and how eloquent Galatea read as. A super easy read.

Beautiful and dark, with all the complex emotions (*cough* trauma responses) under the surface that I’ve associated with Madeline Miller’s work since first reading Circe.

Galatea is a minute and sparkling story that, true to Miller’s historic methodology, breathes life into the translucent female characters of ancient mythology. Were it a fully fledged novel, Galatea would be too heavy for me; it tackles abuse—physical, sexual, and psychological—in jarringly matter-of-fact tone. However, the triumph of the story lies, in my opinion, in the complexity of Galatea herself who, despite being subjected to more than a decade of abuse, maintains both her identity and her perspective, as well as her soft love for her daughter. Galatea is all at once a serious and charming story, and it is well worth the read.
