Clearly an unpopular opinion but this one just didn’t work for me. It should have-action, mythology, a bit of romance- but the writing style just didn’t click. I’m sure others will continue to love it and I hope, unlike me, they do.
This wasn’t enjoyable but it was like a car crash, I couldn’t turn away. If you like Greek mythology you might like this, but overall it was just too dark and violent for me.
Adventure. Life or death. Ancient gods. Reunions. Overcoming trauma. Forgiveness. This book has it all.

I'd been seeing people talk about this one everywhere and finally got it on loan from the library. Let me tell you, this was one of the most interesting takes on Greek mythology I've read in a while. As someone who grew up with Percy Jackson, I've always had an interest in Greek mythology. I've also been playing a lot of Hades recently, which means my interest has been renewed. Lore was a perfect one off to get me back in the mythological world, with excellent world building. The idea of the hunt was fascinating, and I did not see some of the plot twists coming which is a major compliment. If Bracken ever decided to write another book set in this world, I would 100% read it. Also, this is great for girl power.
I was pleasantly surprised by this novel! The story was action packed from the first chapter and kept me guessing throughout the book. I would recommend this to anyone - a solid mix of Greek mythology meets The Purge meets The Hunger Games!
4.5 ⭐️ If you’re into greek mythology retellings this book is definitely for you. Although the beginning was a bit packed with the world/character building, it quickly picked up the pace and unravelled an amazing world packed with interesting characters. It was a mixture of worlds between Olympus and Hunger Games, do with that information what you wish! The only negative about this book is that if you have no prior knowledge of Greek gods a lot of things may be confusing.

I did end up liking the world of the Agon, though I fear that after reading this I need to take a long pause on the murder game genre. It’s becoming quite overplayed, and LORE missed what the best of the genre master — The emotional attachment to participants of the game, and the heart wrenching sorrow the reader feels when a developed character is ripped from the game in tragic circumstance.
I never really find myself attached to a story’s protagonist, but find that my love of a story comes from its supporting characters. LORE gave me maybe one that I felt a little bit attached to.
What I DID enjoy was the appearance of a parable hidden deep in the text, and enjoyed that I really had to think about it in order to see it. I appreciated the very subtle ways that Lore’s story connected to a certain tale of old. If the mortal supporting characters had similar parallels to classic characters, I think this story would’ve been pushed over the top.

I just discovered that Greek mythology is not my thing but it’s fine. It is something you discover along the way of your reading journey
