Was I really supposed to feel any sort of tension during battles when it was well established that Castor literally had a god level ability to heal anybody and everybody, no matter how severe the wound? Ohhh, she got hit in the head - healed. Oh dislocated shoulder - healed. Literally dead - healed.
Was I supposed to feel any sort of compassion for Athena who literally tortured a baby and little girl to get information from the parents????? She did NOT deserve to figure out Zeus’ riddle and “ascend”. Boooooooooooooooo.
Castor and Lore’s relationship was lackluster. Any kind of fun chemistry died after the flashbacks. When they are older we are just “told” that they care for each other, and depend on each other. Blah blah blah. I saw NONE of it. In fact, they seem to deeply mistrust each other. Lore has severe anger issues and Castor has severe “I don’t belong here” issues, and they don’t seem to help balance each other out at all, despite their very opposite problems. Booooooooo.
They should have just focused on Lore, and taken Castor completely out of the equation. Athena was funny, until it was revealed she tortures babies. At that point, my love for her plummeted…
The concept was cool tho. Every 7 years u get an opportunity to kill a god, and get their powers. Kinda epic

this book definitely assumes its readers have an acute knowledge of Greek mythology. fortunately, i am clearly the intended audience as i enjoyed being treated as if i was apart of this world. i came for the understanding that it was percy jackson meets the hunger games and stayed throughout all the crazy plot twists and turns (wasn’t expecting the agon to be so bloody and ruthless, highly enjoyed navigating the sociopolitical landscape and high stakes). the novel was thus quite fast paced which was great to binge but maybe some of the twists could have been explained a bit more… nonetheless braken deserves her laurels for her world building, craftsmanship and character development - Athena was a standout! such a raw portrayal of the goddess’ light and dark sides i love me a complicated female character! anyway, for a ya novel this was pretty banger

I looooooved Lore--both the book and the character! I think my favorite parts of the book were Lore's character development, her relationship with Castor, and all the plot twists. I also liked the secondary characters (Miles and Van, anyone?), the pacing, and the action scenes. And I also appreciated how Lore's character development led well into the finale.
I would definitely recommend this book, especially for Percy Jackson fans who are now 26 years old (me. that's me).AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS LINE: "I was born knowing how to do three things. How to breathe, how to dream, and how to love you." WHEN I TELL YOU I WAS UNWELL
