As a long time lover of Greek mythology, I picked up this book on a whim. I have little time to read simply for enjoyment lately, and I had a hard time putting this down. The mix of mythology and modern enthralled me from the beginning. It pulled me back into the gods and goddesses I so loved reading about as a child. Yet, the story brought Olympia to earth. Intrigue, a hint of romance, and enough action to keep you on your toes, the storyline tells the tale of a young woman, the last of her family line, brought back into a terrible, god-devised 'game' of life, death, and immortality.
I don't want to spoil anything by saying more, so I'll leave this as.... thoroughly enjoyed this and will be looking for more works by Bracken.

Someone called this book Greek mythology meets The Hunger Games. This book is more than that simplistic outlook.
It’s centuries of history and wars and battles. It’s loss and friendship and young love. It’s punishment years and years after the offence occurred.
It’s Lore’s battle to keep her friends safe with shifting alliances and plot twists.
The only reason this book is four stars is because sometimes the plot got lost in the weeds.

I so deeply wanted to love this, but when the book cover art is better than the book itself you know there are issues. The premise (Percy Jackson meets Hunger Games) has so much promise and the fusion of Ancient Greek mythology and modern day NYC works really well.
Unfortunately let down by flat, pedestrian characters, overwritten clichés, excessive info-dumping, and a rushed, unsatisfying ending. The definition of missed potential. Not to mention where was Hera???

This is more like a 3.5. I like the idea of the book, but parts of it bothered me. I don't like multiple names for the same person. Trying to figure out which one it is referring to. At the beginning it got bogged down with the different houses of the God's.

Overall good read but there are a lot of plot twists that can be hard to keep up with and the beginning of the book can feel slow & boring but still a good read !
