I felt like there was a lot of backstory missing, but it was still funny and I liked how Penny didn't end up getting back with her ex-husband, which is where I thought the story was going to go.

A quick, cute holiday read. Finished in just over a day and the MCs commentary had me laughing out loud over the course of the story. Did she get a little annoying towards the end? Yes. But overall it was enjoyable.
I will say, however, that for being a book about a romance writer who has a group of friends called the Smut Coven, I was disappointed at the total lack of any spice whatsoever lol

Penelope In Retrograde is a hilarious and entertaining read. I couldn’t help but to root for Penelope, the protagonist, despite her messiness. Other reviewers noted that they found her to be annoying, but I did not feel the same way. The family dynamics highlighted in this story felt very real and I found myself quickly consumed with the story. I cannot wait to read whatever Abrams, the author, writes next!
