Okay, so after reading Night of a Thousand Darlas and Penelope in Retrograde, Brooke Abrams has officially made it to auto buy status for me. I love the wit, the banter, and the relatable chaotic characters that she creates. I can also see her MCs and plots becoming same-y. Because Liza from Darlas, felt similar in personality to Penelope. In spite of that, I’m still enjoying her books. I need a new one ASAP.
In this story Abrams blended humor and heart in a story about what happens when someone returns home to the version of themselves they thought they’d outgrown. Loved how she manage to still put heart and cute flirty moments in between the funny unhinged shenanigans.
The sibling and parent dynamics were spot on. I was kind of on the fence about how I wanted the romance to play out but thankfully the choices that were made gave the story a satisfying ending.
My only real critiques were that the story started to feel a little too long towards the middle end. But it got back on track and finished strong . Also, the astrology was more of a light garnish than a main ingredient. There was way more talk of moon phases and what phases symbolized than zodiac signs.
Overall I highly recommend. When I finished this book, I realized her writing style reminds me of another author that I like named Sara Goodman Confino. If you’re familiar with her books then you will get what I mean. If not, I recommend her book Don’t Forget to Write. It’s so good.
Cute, short novel about family expectations and growing up feeling like you don't meet expectations. Kindle.
Really enjoyed this one! 4.5 stars. A good romance, but romance wasn’t the focal point.

What an ABSOLUTELY wonderful book! I really enjoyed everything about this story from beginning to end. It's romantic and sweet, without being overly sappy or too graphic. It's a romance, a finding yourself story, and a family story all in one. I laughed out loud a lot too!
I loved Penny as a main character because she is really well rounded and relatable. All of the characters in the book are given their time to shine and every one feels like a fully fleshed out actual person, even the minor characters. The ending is super satisfying and makes you feel good, I don't want to risk spoiling anything so I'll just leave it at that! If you're looking for a feel-good read I highly recommend Penelope In Retrograde!
I did receive an advance reader copy of this book.

I needed a light read after reading a couple of heavy hitters so I chose this. It was fun, quick read.
Refreshing
Lovely novel about he ongoing home again always makes you travel back in time and seems to catch you on the wrong foot . Abrams has a talented way of capturing the immediate regret of transforming back into your (teenage) worst version of yourself but offered a redeeming arc. Looking forward to more works from her

And here is where the March 5 star streak ended. I don't know what the point of this book even is. I was just looking for a quick read (this is under 250 pages) but this took a long time to finish. Honestly this book showed me I need to be better at DNF-ing books. Truly this book was pointless and made no sense.
I went into this book thinking I was going to like it, but I ended up absolutely loving it. I could not put it down
